I think marsh has played very well last two test series with bat in England . Australia is a different story at test level and conditions for him but it’s hard to deny him another chance right now . he saved the nations hind in one with the bat at Manchester from memory .

Spinner's stunning debut, Marsh magic lead Aussies to crushing win over South Africa

James I do think renshaw and bancroft were hard done by not getting opps in last ashes perhaps the way the wickets played in the first few tests Bancroft may have got more out of the Baz ball style than renshaw who may have preffred the later wickets with more traditional tinges of movement for woakes . however now going forward bancroft would suit Aussie wickets this summer . I like labs opening abroad a bit more due to his attrition and survival in his foreign hostile conditions . green will be much better back on Aussie wickets . marsh was fantastic in England as he always has been more recently in last two series there , he just needs to be consistent on Aussie wickets at test level. smith in some ways likes traditional English decks the McG and scg red ball but he may be in decline and he’s admitted he never likes pink ball tests as much and prefers the traditional red ball tests . still Aus should make light work of Pakistan and windies at home this summer . The big tests come again after this summer

That looks like the top order I wanted by the end of the ashes in 2019. labs is a natural opener I’m convinced despite a mediocre ashes series

ridiculous what are they smoking

Australia A squad announced: Bancroft, Marnus get chance to press selection claims after snubs

Matt by time england plays in aus next it will be ten long years as losers not holding the ashes ???? as for england they’ve won once in aus in how long, nearly 40 years one win abroad in aus . pretty pathetic if your English ????

Every player rated from the fifth Ashes Test: Spinner shines, Davey defies doubters, but is Cummins cooked?

no Aus gave away donation wickets at headingly . reckless for most part . last test day 4 if rain didn’t come the margin was 100 runs the next morning to get run down for most part in first session . lucky lucky england . aussies the better team bar one test . that’s why they retain . that’s why England will not have held the ashes for ten long years

Every player rated from the fifth Ashes Test: Spinner shines, Davey defies doubters, but is Cummins cooked?

so true opeo Sutherland was the leading shield wicket taker last year I believe certainly best average . he’s a real proposition for Australia and could challenge Cameron green or be played along side him .

Why Australia need to start regenerating ageing Test team now before it’s too late

Dwayne rain completely helped england win that test . the delay day 4 was when Aus was without loss and In. complete ascendancy . another 45 overs day 4 let’s say with two wickets down at conservative 3 and over deducts 135 off the 250. 100 to 115 runs due the next morning would have been wittled down to 40 runs due after the next rain break or before. constant rain breaks saved england and sun came out for it then dry up and move about . not even. mentioning the ball change radically changing the match in their favour !!

meh england but for a new ball replacement and rain got saved In this test headingly Aus threw ascendancy away early to win outright . end of the day Aussies retain . ten long years retaining and holding ashes I know which team I’d rather be on . another prominent Australian reign continues in ashes history m a great action packed series . Aus will rue retaining warner and not selecting neser as I think that would have lead to a series victory but that’s cricket and retaining abroad is a fantastic achievement . bring on the next won Aus will trample them down under again

Every player rated from the fifth Ashes Test: Spinner shines, Davey defies doubters, but is Cummins cooked?

The poms got saved by rain yesterday won four tosses had most of the weather conditions and Aus lost Lyon for an innings and half at lords a bowler down let alone whole series . not to mention that ridiculous new ball replacement late yesterday which the oval cricket club provided out of a box from nowhere .
I’d say 2 2 is a fair result but aussies actually deserve to retain . Aus had their foot on englands throat early on at headingly and let that one go for the win but 10 long years the ashes have now been in Australia and I wouldn’t mind guessing Cummins, lance Morris , Richardson , Sutherland , Lyon and Murphs will go for the jugular in two years and trav will lead the way on flatter hone decks. ashes retained job well done despite some huge Aussie selector errors with warner and neser not playing

they didn’t dominate Sutherland though as he made mince meat out of your lot in two finals in a row with two five wicket hauls and played with a stress fracture in last one and hit 81 with bat destroying your bowlers too . he has freak status away from home if your lot are that good , he ripped them apart twice with ball . I bet that grates on you donny as you’ve got no response to that demo job by him in your own backyard .

Why Australia need to start regenerating ageing Test team now before it’s too late

let’s make that two finals in Perth in a row he slaughtered wa batsmen and In second one played with a stress fracture and made 81 with bat . don’t you hate it when a Victorian goes to town on your amazing way batsmen and twice in two finals. he absolutely pelted your lot all be it a one man demo in a losing side . that’s why you pick him . he special

rain radar update from middle of lunch a few km south of oval through to tea there’s a chance of quite a bit of rain . it may miss or catch the oval for an hour and then another 15 mins so the middle session could go either way to a rain delay or partial rain delay . first and last sessions which would run late look good to go so they will likely play to 7pm or bad light

hilarious bias to wa don

mat need Carey’s experience by then . captain perhaps . needed a few players that have toured uk before for sure

your missing Sutherland james. played shield final with a stress fracture over in wa and also racked up 81 with bat . two finals in a row . something very unique about him

leading wicket taker in shield last season average of 19 . Sutherland could be a all-rounder weapon.

gold Sutherland takes two 5 wicket hauls against wa in two finals in a row . that’s why he’s decent don . you’ve got a bit of selective memory loss when it comes to wa and interstate players don

Why Australia need to start regenerating ageing Test team now before it’s too late

think you need to go back and look at Sutherland’s demo job on wa with ball in shield before he got injured . got a 5 for in Perth . I like Morris alot but Sutherland out bowled him really on your doorstep Donny.

I think they start on time in England and play later usually up to at least 7pm often but surely no more than 98 overs. met site says rain at 3pm for an hour . key is first session for aus . survive it and don’t chase to hard. 70 to 75 runs first session would mean 170 to 180 needed with only one or two down . means they can asses next session and next new ball and rain break from there . new ball may come right before rain break if any . I wouldn’t be chasing too hard until after the rainbreak , if it comes , around the middle of day as they could still play 35 overs after that and if marsh and head haven’t come in by then it’s game on

I’d agree see of woakes (Don’t flash or fish for at his deliveries ) and wait for wood to tire and then pick him off at over 4 to 6 of each spell. spot on though James .woakes has been their bowling weapon since third test . evidence aussies should have played neser at headingly and Manchester If evidence was needed for a swing bowler to play but too late for that now . neser will be confined to an outsider in uk now for history and Aus will never know if he could have been a rampant weapon in the third and 4th test matches die to stubborn selectors

I note there is no test cricket all year after new Zealand tour this summer so a real opportunity to initiate debuts against Pakistan and west indies are hone this summer . baring In mind India tour the following summer . warner will be gone by then and perhaps hazelwood after this summer. so some openings are coming up and starc may need to be selected carefully and should be rotated this summer if we are to give Morris a match at Mcg or scg .

Why Australia need to start regenerating ageing Test team now before it’s too late

I have some hope for Australia test cricket given the surge post covid of immigration from india which could widen the pool for cricket talent as opposed to rugby union which has a decreasing playing pool due to immigration with families that dont like their kids playing it at school level. of course you summarize the financial influence of t20 taking over along with broadcasting and huge sovereign and private funds from India and Arabia . I note next year there is no test cricket after the NZ March tour until late November . t20 world cup prevails tjen India will tour so if they want to baptize new incumbents it’s a great summer to rotate a few players in given the nature is fixtures is sparse nowadays . they need to move with the times to get younger players in as there is less test cricket scheduled.

Smith may have his last summer coming up at home given his press interviews . warner definitely . it will be interesting to see how green v marsh goes back in aus where green has had superior form on home red ball decks. marsh is fantastic on English decks though . khawaja well no sign of deterioration what a 3 year period for him but he’s not getting younger . indo wonder if smith and khawaja will hang around for the final challenge of beating India a bit longer and one last ashes series on home decks . time will tell .
