Former Australian ODI quick Gurinder Sandhu has claimed the best bowling figures in Tasmania’s domestic one-day cricket history during the JLT Cup final, taking 7 for 56 and finishing the innings with a hat-trick.
In doing so, he becomes the first man playing for Tasmania to take a hat-trick in domestic one-day cricket, with his performance helping limit Victoria to 274 at the Junction Oval. The hat-trick came on the last three balls of the innings.
The former New South Wales pace bowler played two ODIs in 2015, taking combined figures of 3 for 107, while he averages 35 with the ball in first-class cricket.
Shaun Tait holds the domestic one-day record for best bowling figures, having taken 8 for 43 in 9.3 overs in 2004 against the Tigers when playing for South Australia.
Sandhu’s hat-trick is comparable (both in the type of dismissals and the stage of innings) to that of English quick Steve Finn, who did the same when playing for England during the 2015 World Cup against Australia.
