Ricky Stuart would have had a perfect view had it been a Cronulla player who had committed the spear tackle. I know it’s a pitiful attempt to reduce the length of Kris’ suspension, but to pretend not to have seen something so crystal clear and indefensible is disingenuous. Actually, scratch that; it’s a weak-gutted coach act.

Thursday night football sold out the first time they did it (Knights vs Dragons, 2012). Not sure about other occasions, but you can’t claim an ‘only’ record when you can’t even claim a ‘first’ record.

You’re right; I didn’t factor that in. It’s unfortunate for Cronulla that they got one day less preparation for their elimination final than Canberra despite winning, but that’s just how the results panned out.

(Canberra can also play on Sunday in the unlikely event of a draw tomorrow)
NRL Week 1 finals match-ups: Playoff fixtures LOCKED IN
An ideal draw would be:
Friday – Broncos v Storm
Sat 5:30 – Panthers v Warriors
Sat 7:30 – Knights v Roosters / Raiders
Sunday – Sharks / Raiders v Sharks / Roosters
That gives every club a 7 day turnaround with the possible exception of Canberra (still 6 days for them, and they’ll get 7 days if they nab 6th), and puts the Warriors on in NZ prime time. Brisbane get their mandatory Friday night, and the week 2 and 3 venues and timeslots can be booked after the first two games of the weekend.

Hopefully they try to put it in some sequence to when the teams played in round 27. In other words, Sunday should be saved for Cronulla or Canberra (or both, if they play one another).

a lower grade is getting the same opportunities as those above them.
No, they can only win their grade’s title, not the top title.
If you don’t make a team, do not reach a final etc then do you treat a 10, 12 or 14 year old with kid gloves or do you make them realise that not everything will go their way?
I mean, if you were going to treat anyone with kid gloves, it would be appropriate when it’s a kid. But I expect the league is more interested in giving their players enough motivation to sign up again next year than they are in handing out harsh realities. Aside from the bungled scheduling, this harms no one.

Will Turbo end up playing in the centres?
Tigers fans protest Pascoe as Manly deal out another thrashing - and even Jurbo scored
Not sure why my response disappeared into the ether, but think of it like having a fitness goal, realizing early on that it’s not going to happen, but then setting a more modest target rather than just quitting. That’s commendable.

I mean, in association football, the ONLY trophy that anyone cares about is the Club World Cup. No one cares who wins the Premier League, or Serie A, or any of those other tinpot competitions. Once you’re out of contention for the Club World Cup, you might as well just not turn up for any of your remaining fixtures. There’s clearly no achievement in just winning your domestic trophy, particularly if you’re not from one of the biggest leagues…
It’s a good thing for kids to have something to aspire to, even if that new target is less prestige than their original goal.

I remember playing under 16’s rugby league in Newcastle and having the divisions restructured mid-season. As a result, we had an away trip to Muswellbrook, a good two hours away. Because their players were involved in a school tournament on the Saturday we were scheduled to play, the game (without consulting out club) was moved to a Wednesday night. Most of us were in the midst of our Year 10 exams. No choice but to forfeit because apparently player unavailability was only an excuse for the first team to raise it. It’s obviously challenging to organize junior sport, but there has to be open dialogue and an endeavour to keep the schedule as close as possible to what families were prepared to sign up for.

No conferences.
Lack of care factor over NRL minor premiership is embarrassing but almost impossible to solve perennial problem
The minor premier would be guaranteed to make the preliminary final, win or lose, so it would actually be in their interest to tank their game to keep a weaker opponent in the final four.
Lack of care factor over NRL minor premiership is embarrassing but almost impossible to solve perennial problem
So, this season, for example, you’d be perfectly happy if the Panthers, Broncos, Warriors and Storm all ended up on the same side of the draw, ensuring only one of them could make the grand final?

But, but, but… (something about a woke agenda)!

Please explain the purpose of those with lesser ability being aligned with those of superior ability?
Well, in terms of having a separate finals series for the top 5 and the bottom 5, you are aligning those with similar ability against one another. I’m not sure if that’s the point you were trying to make.
What is exactly behind all this?
Probably trying to let kids play as much as possible. The scoundrels!
It is not up to the “adults” to equalise children/teenagers it is up to the kids themselves to have ambition and become the best they can be.
At senior level, a good player on a weak team can change clubs, or their club could upgrade their training program, coaching staff, etc. Those options don’t exist for a typical under 14’s team or its players.

But a report can lead to nothing. It’s meant to allow the match review committee to have time to look at the incident(s) and make their assessments. If the referee wants to sit someone down, they already have the power to do so, and they shouldn’t be dissuaded from putting someone on report because they would be compelled to use the sin bin at the same time.

The NRL could simply refuse to do business with a company that charges a $7.50 ticketing fee. Everyone is online these days; surely you could have a ticket in your email.

No Michael, Ricky Stuart is NOT entitled to have a whinge. The referees have an impossible task and they do a very good job. Sticky has had over 20 years of blaming his inadequate player preparation on the officials. Enough is enough.
