Matildas fixtures and results

The Matildas participate in various women’s competitions throughout the calendar year. Here, you can find all upcoming Matildas fixtures, as well as recent results.

The Matildas began 2023 with an undefeated run to claim the Cup of Nations, beating Jamaica and the Czech Republic on either side of a stirring 3-2 triumph over Spain.

The team next headed to England for a pair of friendlies against Scotland and England. They lost the first of those matches 10 to Scotland, but stunned England 2-0 in the second, ending their 30-match unbeaten run stretching back to April 2021 (though the Matildas did beat a similar Great Britain team at the Tokyo Olympics).

They warmed up for the World Cup in ideal fashion with a 1-0 win over France in front of 50,629 fans at Marvel Stadium – the largest ever home crowd they have played in front of, though that record is expected to only last a matter of days before the major tournament begins.

The Matildas’ home Women’s World Cup campaign is underway; the team defeated Ireland 1-0 in their first game, but lost to Nigeria 3-2 in their second. They recovered to progress to the Round of 16 with a famous 4-0 win over reigning Olympic champions Canada, which proved enough to top Group B and set up a knockout clash with Denmark.

They then toppled the Danes 2-0 to progress to the quarter-finals, before beating France in one of the most dramatic penalty shootouts in World Cup history to reach the semi-finals for the first time.

However, their quest for a final ended at the hands of England, who won a tense semi-final 3-1, before Australia loss the third-place play-off 2-0 to Sweden.

Later in the year, the team will head to Perth for Round 2 of the Paris Olympics Asian Qualifiers, playing Iran, the Philippines and Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) at HBF Park.

Currently the Matildas are ranked 10th on FIFA’s international ladder.
