The Aussies resume on 2/147 after Marnus Labuschagne fell to what proved the last ball of the opening day before bad light forced a premature finish.

As such, play begins half an hour early on Day 2, with the match relatively evenly poised. If the Proteas can expose the Aussie middle order early, they will be in business; but if Smith can pair with the set Usman Khawaja, they can take the game away from a South African team whose batting has been brittle this series.
