You just need to factor in Warner as a disposable tail-ender when Australia are batting. Think of him as a permanent night-watchman. If he gets a few runs it’s a bonus.

After decades of “chairman’s five day” pitches in Oz, where gate takings and TV’s interests take precedence over the development and ability of players, the Australian team are reaping the results.

Batting:
Lively pitch? Can’t bat.
Moving ball? Can’t bat.

Bowling:
Lively pitch? Can’t bowl with nuance.
Moving ball? No idea how to use it.

Just look at the average results away from home. This generation and the next generation have had zero chance to hone their craft.

CA’s solution? More flat decks and more tip and run cricket.

The first two tests will be the highlight then back to more of the same.

To be honest, I drifted off quite early as there are far more pressing issues regarding climate change than sport.

I maintain that this article should never have been published on a sports opinion website.

We come here to get away from the endless political crap.

So given that, as the article says, that becoming more physical has been a requirement for sometime, even under the previous coach, how much time and persistence do you think it will take?

5 or 10 years?

It feels like being a pushover in the forwards has been a Wallabies trait for many seasons.

They may still run the programs but the changing demographics means that the incoming talent is not what it used to be nor is what it needs to be.

The sad truth is that there is no feed of up and comers. The tired old private school systems is no longer geared up for rugby types – strangely they are prioritising academics over sport, so no much coming into the system.

Other than pillaging Pasifika teams there are few options.

So others can have a long run of “shocker series”, especially in the UK, and not be ashamed, yet another player has one bad run and is under the pump?

How about this? The Australian men’s top order have really not performed as a unit for many years. Too many failures, too early. The team has really relied on the middle order and tail to make up for it.

Maybe it’s the top order as a whole that needs to go into the room of mirrors and have a really hard look at themselves?

I reckon one and only measure of “Eddie’s Squad” is if the Wallabies manage to beat, anybody at all.

Provincial results mean nothing on the international circuit.

The only criteria to measure the success of the Wallabies is their performance at that level. Recent history does not bode well.

Ummm, while the debacle that was the Dardanelles campaign did have Churchill’s fingerprints all over it, he was not the British PM, but merely First Sea Lord. Which means he wasn’t really in a position to ‘expand the empire’.

It seems to me that when you find yourself in a hole of your own making, the first thing to do is stop digging.

Then you can work out how you got into the hole, why it is so deep and who and how to get out.

Yet all of the pre-season NRL advertising (here in SA) is predominately showing “big hits” just like Graham’s.

I guess if the NRL wish to stop the “big hits”, they need to stop making them a focus of the game.
