Has the Macquarie Dictionary redefined the meaning of “contender”?

Good grief.

How Wallabies went from a 'train wreck' with 'no chance' to a RWC contender as Mortlock, Hansen talk them up

It’s downstairs in the Ladies.

'Stokes put his mate over the Ashes': The Pommy and the Aussie chat late declarations, retained urns and more

I guess it has been too little, too late for this mob then.

They do not seem to have learned anything…

Bairstow 99, Wood's triple strike crush Aussies as series hangs on incoming Manchester downpour

You just need to factor in Warner as a disposable tail-ender when Australia are batting. Think of him as a permanent night-watchman. If he gets a few runs it’s a bonus.

Bairstow 99, Wood's triple strike crush Aussies as series hangs on incoming Manchester downpour

After decades of “chairman’s five day” pitches in Oz, where gate takings and TV’s interests take precedence over the development and ability of players, the Australian team are reaping the results.

Batting:
Lively pitch? Can’t bat.
Moving ball? Can’t bat.

Bowling:
Lively pitch? Can’t bowl with nuance.
Moving ball? No idea how to use it.

Just look at the average results away from home. This generation and the next generation have had zero chance to hone their craft.

CA’s solution? More flat decks and more tip and run cricket.

The first two tests will be the highlight then back to more of the same.

To be honest, I drifted off quite early as there are far more pressing issues regarding climate change than sport.

I maintain that this article should never have been published on a sports opinion website.

We come here to get away from the endless political crap.

Just Stop Oil or just stop cricket: What price will the game pay for refusing to heed warnings?

Dear Editors,
I realise that The Roar is in the business of generating clicks, but this is just rubbish. Why is this tripe being served up on a sports opinion site?
In the words of the late, great Peter Frillingos “That’ll do me”.

Just Stop Oil or just stop cricket: What price will the game pay for refusing to heed warnings?

So given that, as the article says, that becoming more physical has been a requirement for sometime, even under the previous coach, how much time and persistence do you think it will take?

5 or 10 years?

It feels like being a pushover in the forwards has been a Wallabies trait for many seasons.

'Brutally honest': The 'honest feedback' that has Wallabies on edge ahead of date with Cheika's Pumas

Sadly, if it is a marathon then they are in trouble because they looked like they were in a three-legged race.

'It's a marathon': Wallabies not panicking as Kerevi puts hand up to start against Cheika's Pumas

That didn’t age well, did it?

'Dark places': Why Eddie Jones and zen Quade have spooked the Boks

They may still run the programs but the changing demographics means that the incoming talent is not what it used to be nor is what it needs to be.

'Disaster': Wallabies hammered by Boks as Eddie Jones' return falls flat

The sad truth is that there is no feed of up and comers. The tired old private school systems is no longer geared up for rugby types – strangely they are prioritising academics over sport, so no much coming into the system.

Other than pillaging Pasifika teams there are few options.

'Disaster': Wallabies hammered by Boks as Eddie Jones' return falls flat

To misquote HG and Roy:
“Gutless mooks who should be kicking the dew off the field in second grade”

'Disaster': Wallabies hammered by Boks as Eddie Jones' return falls flat

Well that’s put a crimp in the sales of rose coloured glasses to Wallabies supporters.

We need an early win to shore up sales…

'Disaster': Wallabies hammered by Boks as Eddie Jones' return falls flat

I am sure that’s against the spirit of the game…

😁 😛 😂

SevenTEENth heaven: Warner Broad's bunny again as Smith, Marnus brain fades leave Ashes in Marsh's hands

So others can have a long run of “shocker series”, especially in the UK, and not be ashamed, yet another player has one bad run and is under the pump?

How about this? The Australian men’s top order have really not performed as a unit for many years. Too many failures, too early. The team has really relied on the middle order and tail to make up for it.

Maybe it’s the top order as a whole that needs to go into the room of mirrors and have a really hard look at themselves?

SevenTEENth heaven: Warner Broad's bunny again as Smith, Marnus brain fades leave Ashes in Marsh's hands

Why Labushagne be singled out as owing the team?

They’ve been carrying Warner for several seasons now.

I reckon one and only measure of “Eddie’s Squad” is if the Wallabies manage to beat, anybody at all.

Provincial results mean nothing on the international circuit.

The only criteria to measure the success of the Wallabies is their performance at that level. Recent history does not bode well.

Enough of the excuses: Eddie's Wallabies squad will be defined by who wins and who doesn't in Super playoffs

Ummm, while the debacle that was the Dardanelles campaign did have Churchill’s fingerprints all over it, he was not the British PM, but merely First Sea Lord. Which means he wasn’t really in a position to ‘expand the empire’.

Sorry Tigers to fix Anzac jersey after design debacle as club mired in chronic mediocrity tries to rebuild yet again

It seems to me that when you find yourself in a hole of your own making, the first thing to do is stop digging.

Then you can work out how you got into the hole, why it is so deep and who and how to get out.

'Dig our way out': NSW not panicking yet despite clunky loss as Tahs sweat on injured star trio

Yet all of the pre-season NRL advertising (here in SA) is predominately showing “big hits” just like Graham’s.

I guess if the NRL wish to stop the “big hits”, they need to stop making them a focus of the game.

Graham faces hefty ban for 'hell of a shot' dividing NRL debate, Raiders repeat offender in strife again

It is amazing how the one-eyed generally lack a sense of humour.

This series has been a farce. All the results should be null and void.
