Just remember, every Vic premiership over a travelling team has an asterisk 👍

Why every finals team can win the 2023 AFL premiership... and why they can't

Might need fill-ins for some bands –

Eurogliders
Triffids
Stems
V Capri (might be going a bit far here, but Scott and Charlene liked ’em)

Or go across the ditch to NZ at least…
Split Enz
Dave Dobyn (everyone loves “Slice of Heaven”)
Dragon

AFL News: Giants fail to overturn goalsneak's ban, Cats premiership coach to present 2023 cup

Kids love stickers 😁 There was also iron-on transfers for your t-shirt.
Would you say you were a fan at that age, or just aware of them?
Queen was around at the same time. Whilst it is hard to remember back that far, do you recall liking one more than the other? Kate Bush was also around then.

Most ppl under 50 would have been too young to be fans of KISS when they were at their peak… and i suspect very few over 50 would have listened to KISS since then. Their are plenty of 70s bands whose music (or hit songs) stood the test of time… kiss ain’t one of them.

AFL News: Giants fail to overturn goalsneak's ban, Cats premiership coach to present 2023 cup

Did the gambling company that uses KISS to promote betting pay a significant portion of the GF appearance fee? Abso-fkn-lutely. In no way did the AFL think “yeah – old dudes who can’t sing, in full make up, questionable attitudes towards women, is what the fans want”. FMD. Surely there is a middle-aged-ish Aussie band that would do it for the shekels?

I would be surprised if there wasn’t a charter for a top 4 team (ie a genuine contender).
The AFL will argue that clubs know what finals arrangments (generally) are – QFs primetime Thurs/Sat night, a min 7day break for all finals, PFs Fri/Sat night, all Vic based finals at MCG… but, with no shame, make changes to accomodate vic clubs. Back in 2013 all wk1 finals were in Vic, so the Cats hosted Freo in Geelong – so extra travel for Freo, another lost opportunity for mcg exposure, and few tickets available for fans – had the Cats been playing a Melbourne club the game would have been at mcg or docklands. It really is laughable at times.

Why every finals team can win the 2023 AFL premiership... and why they can't

Eagles hosted Pies in a QF on a Saturday night (last game) in 2018, so it’s not uprecedented. I think the main objective is a 7day break for all for wk2 of finals. Aside from QF prestige warranting a premium broadcast slot, over afternoon for EF, perhaps a consideration is travel for fans – clubs might argue they would get more fans travelling for Saturday night than Friday night/Saturday afternoon. Anyway, the Saturday EF winner is ‘hosted’ by Saturday night QF loser… and the (richer) clubs charter a flight back home after the game. Having said this, Eagles hosted Melbourne in a saturday prelim at 1pm AWST in 2018, so the Demons could fly home earlier.

All the football codes are looking to ride the Matilda’s WC campaign coat tails… even the ROAR was using the Matildas to push Wallabies articles.
The AFLW expanded to 18 clubs to quickly, leaving a very thinly spread talent pool. And the quality of the games has suffered. Whereas the NRLW has taken a more sensible approach imo.
It is hard to see who, in female sports comps, will get the best leverage off the Matildas success. You would think W-League is in best position to capitalise. At the very least, soccer is on the radar of girls across the country. And, these girls know their male family members and male friends all worshipped Sam Kerr as much as their male sporting heros.

AFL News: Bombers lock up Parish, Greene apologises to Weitering for cheeky jab

The AA captaincy nod has been outrageously bad on occassion, and as mentioned in the article, is sometimes merely a legacy reward.
Greene over Bont? yes. Bont couldn’t inspire his team to beat WCE at home, or Hawks (tbf, hawks are well coached though), and Greene does inspire his team to lift with Herculean efforts. Don’t get me wrong, Bont is an outstanding player and would love him in my team. Bulldogs are one of the most hard teams to tip, imo, they are so erratic.

Wings take flight, 'flat out error' on Dusty, veterans snubbed: Winners and losers from the 2023 AFL All-Australian team

Yes, many people are disappointed in the ABC ever since the LNP gutted funding, installed Murdoch hacks (and the woefully inept Ita). If you actually watched the abc you would see it has right wing bias, not left wing as the LNP and conservative media regurgitate ad nauseam.
Australia is one of only 6 countries that allows dog racing, and the U.S. only allows it in 2 states. And, Australia has half of all dog racing tracks in the world. You reckon this exists for any other reason than gambling?
80k ppl linked to the racing industry? Are you going to mention how much money is taken out of the economy by gambling? The social impact? What percentage of horses are kept alive when their racing careers are over or their career never took off? Sure, people like a beer and a punt, and race meets in regional towns are big social events, i get it. But, people go to drink, punt, and socialise… watching the actual horse racing? Not so much.
Reporting of animal cruelty is not some leftie agenda. Live cattle exports gets far more coverage then animal abuse in racing.

It’s mainly been the last couple of seasons that the roof has been closed on fine weather days. I was under the impression conditions are likely more slippy with closed roof.
Is N to S any worse than E-W with regards to sun in the eyes?
Anyway, if the clubs prefer roof closed then fair enough… it is wierd watching a day game with roof closed though.

AFL News: Weitering learns fate for Greene incident, star Tiger's AA snub, finals week 1 locked in

Cheers for that, some items not readily apparent.
“They built it in the wrong direction meaning the roof has to be closed” – closing the roof is only a recent thing… did the AFL say why they close it now?

Genuine question – Why don’t you like docklands?
I would have thought a full(ish) house at docklands would be more palatable than a 2/3 full MCG. I realise there are contractual arrangements for the MCG hosting.
I feel for GWS, and other clubs, not getting mcg exposure during the regular season. Carlton (mcg tenant) hosted GWS at docklands, and now play docklands tenant at mcg. Funnily enough, Freo got to play a game at the mcg in the last round… which would have been great leading into a finals campaign 😔

Most country towns have sporting grounds, where communities gather, and very few have race tracks to facilitate gambling.
I suspect country people love their animals, and very few want to race them. Horse racing and dog racing exists solely for gambling, it’s a kind of slavery… esp what happens to the animals if they don’t race well. In the news today, the nsw greyhound industry has complained about a ban on advertising of dog racing gambling, they say the dogs will suffer – hard to tell if it is a threat or concern.

A couple of plane crashes

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions Round 24: How will the Bulldogs let their fans down this week?

Tough one to tip. Eagles have secured 2nd pick (excl compensation), are seeing off retiring champs, last game of bad season… so keen to end on a high i imagine. Adelaide gutted by last week, out of finals race, players heads might be drifting towards end of season break and preseason. This game might see some overtake their tipping nemesis 😁

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions Round 24: How will the Bulldogs let their fans down this week?

Ummm… 4 Corners exposés and investigative reporting is leftie agenda? So, covering up and ignoring animal cruelty is right-wing agenda?
You are bemoaning lack of feel good stories about dog racing and horse racing? Apart from gamblers, who watches the dish lickers? Or horse races, excluding R7 on Melbourne Cup day? You do know Scooby Doo was a cartoon character, and Mr Ed couldn’t actually talk? Animals can’t talk, or report abuse.
You do know you can bet on the footy right?
There are plenty of small/niche sports that get little coverage.

“Free speech is still allowed” – the first refuge of right-wingers when called out.

AFL News: 'Sooked it up' - Aker slams Murphy over 'biased' ABC story, Dons fan favourite bows out

Angela, you have made repeated attacks on Louise Milligan and the ABC in comments.
“ABC stopped obeying its charter and showing both sides decades ago” – this is a nonsense claim by you. The ABC is the only media outlet subject to constant review, heavily scrutinised review – which is always found to be fair and balanced.
You have never been critical of Newscorp or 9media. You want to see a “pile-on”, watch and read their “balanced” coverage of state and federal politics. Watch their attacks on sexual assault survivors, watch their attacks on the Voice, SSM, their false claims of roaming african gangs, climate denialism, election rigging. Former Labor and Liberal PMs have called for an RC into newscorp, that’s how bad they are.
The ABC has endured endless budget cuts under LNP control, and, in fact, the LNP stacked the ABC with ex-Newscorp ppl. The ABC is skewed to the right in it’s coverage, and rarely challenges false claims by right-wing politicians. It is your right to shill for the right-wing, but, ppl will call out your lies and bias.

Shane, your comment is rather erratic… and like others have mentioned, i never heard of Don Scott being g_y.

I am excited for Dimma, he gets to see parts of Australia he has never been to before 😛

Dimma the Sun: Gold Coast unveil triple-premiership Tiger as new coach

True, flag isn’t guaranteed. But, Hardwick is inheriting a young and v strong playing group and knows how a professional club should run. A number of finals campaigns are beckoning, and hopefully a gf appearence or two.
