Cipriani is certainly working his way through a who’s who of England Rugby -Lancaster, Cate, George Ford, Owen Farrell, Robshaw etc. And now Jones. It is hard to credit this stuff when so many are at fault for not recognising his genius.

How about Shaun Edwards?

RWC News: Star claims Eddie was 'like a horny teenager' asking about his sex life, Andy Farrell's epic ABs rant

A great game – it wasn’t even mentioned by Dawson and Habanna in their BBC podcast ranking the top 10 RWC games 😱

The Wrap: Magical World Cup moments and memories that left an indelible mark, and the promise of so much more

When Cox came on as a substitute against Brisbane he had a dramatic impact; his rucking was as good as I have seen and the Pies stemmed (for the third quarter at least) the Brisbane dominance in the clearances. Playing forward, he offers a contest and brings the ball to ground. Given that May and Lever are great interceptors, I think he will be needed.

Mini-grand finals, Saints' Toby tamer, should Pies play Cox? Five burning questions for AFL Finals Week One

How does he compare with Martin Johnson?

Greatest XV: John Eales' World Cup journey from clumsy No.8 to Australian rugby's most iconic moment

The title is misleading because you are actually talking about flyhalves; I would argue that the best playmaker – and, perhaps, the best rugby player in the world – is Dupont.

Top 10 playmakers at Rugby World Cup - and why the Wallabies' young gun has the game's toughest gig

Yes. Post 2019 saw the pandemic, the relegation of the Saracens and the gutting of the u20s pathways system.

RWC News: French rocked by another injury, Eddie whacks Poms and says Wallabies have one big advantage

One of the disastrous things England did after 2019 was gutting the pathways system which had been so successful – letting go a whole array of successful aged coaches who had been instrumental to the success of the under 20s. Even Lancaster voiced his concern about this. But for context, we need to factor in the effects of the pandemic, which had different effects on different unions, etc. A proper analysis of Jones post 2019 would have to take account of Covid and its effects upon English rugby; of course, there was also the debacle surrounding the Saracens who had been the foundation of England’s success.

RWC News: French rocked by another injury, Eddie whacks Poms and says Wallabies have one big advantage

I have been listening to the BBC’s RWC top 10 podcasts and they rated the top RWC coaches. I was surprised to see them rate Eddie Jones above Rod MacQueen. To read Finegan speaking about MacQueen’s meticulous planning and his man-management just reaffirms what an extraordinary coach MacQueen was.

Greatest XV: 'Everyone yelled Owen Finegan! World Champion! And I drank out of the Cup'

I am struggling to find many fans who are enamoured of Borthwick. Jones was there for 7 years. His first four were generally excellent – even outstanding. However, he exceeded his shelf life but strange that everyone now discounts those first four years.

Cipriani is partially right but Jones is highly qualified to comment on the English system.. The disconnect between the premiership and the national team was something Sir Clive Woodward complained about long ago; but Eddie was spot on when he spoke about the cloistered private school system and its influence on rugby. Part of the problem, also, is that the academy system is taking players out of club system and alot of clubs in the south west counties are struggling to field colts and youth teams, etc. RFU needs to follow the example of English cricket and establish a hub system so state school players can get regular weekly competitive game play.

Will anyone from the previous decade actually figure in this team?

No Jordan DeGoey?

AFL Awards: Bontempelli wins second MVP as new faces named in All-Australian team, Sheez the man for Rising Star honours

Pies had probably the toughest season fixture of any team and still managed to win the minor premiership. I think that will count for something.

Six Points: Meet your new flag favourites, the finals sleeping Giants, and why Sheezel still shouldn't win Rising Star

I would say it’s one of the better scrumming performances I have seen from the Wallabies. But yes, elementary mistakes all over the park – I thought the centres were awful but hopefully we have Kerevi to return? What we will see is a lot more offloading in the tackle which is why I suspect Jones will start with Vunivalu. Is Nick White a chance to start to cover our kicking from the tee? He would at least be on the bench? And Koribete? And our line out will surely be different in terms of strategies? I think this team at least has more potential uplift than the one we sent to the previous World Cup.

'We didn't want to show too much': Is Eddie bluffing in a high stakes game of rugby poker?

Skelton was ok. I thought the centres were our real problem.

Studs and duds: Eddie's 'wrongheaded' selections, Carter '100 percent a concern', 'weapon' fires at last

Is Jones likely to make any last minute changes to the squad before tomorrows official deadline?

Studs and duds: Eddie's 'wrongheaded' selections, Carter '100 percent a concern', 'weapon' fires at last

The disingenuous part being that while they blame Jones, commentators over here are calling for Marcus Smith to be the main playmaker and to construct a midfield around Smith’s skill set – which is more or less what Jones was in the process of doing.

'Not good enough': England in disarray as Fiji pull off historic win to emerge as World Cup's darkest horse

Funny to watch Hartley on prime talking up the positives. This is the problem with ex-players commentating on games – they are reluctant to criticise other players. But this was a shambolic performance by England; Fiji broke the line too easily and were too often in space. The rain should have favoured England but they have away possession too easily and their work at the ruck was poor. Congratulations for Fiji. Years of organisation and development lie behind this victory.

'Not good enough': England in disarray as Fiji pull off historic win to emerge as World Cup's darkest horse

They should have the minor premiership stripped from them. It makes no sense basing ladder positions on games won over the whole of the season.

Footy Fix: Jack Ginnivan just sealed a finals spot - and he might be the Pies' September secret weapon

He has been carrying an injury. Hence why he was rested – and we could do that because we were two games clear at the top of the ladder.

AFL News: Daicos delivers good news for Pies, tribunal hands down McCartin verdict, Keays fiasco deepens, Simpson gone?

I think the Pies are in a great spot to launch themselves towards a grand final. I cannot recall anyone predicting we might win the minor premiership. For me, the most important Collingwood player is DeGoey – he wins contested possessions and clearances and has elite score involvements. McCrae is priming him for finals football. Pies are a far better team with an on form DeGoey and a fit Darcy Moore.
