Well they’ve won the domestic treble (Shield, One Day Cup and BBL) two years in a row so everything is a fair suggestion.

Mitch craft: Marsh continues incredible start to T20 captaincy career as Aussies double down on Proteas

Perhaps, but you prolong his career as a test batsman by not playing the limited overs stuff – and that should be the priority.

What has Matt Short done as an opener at Shield level?
ODI and T20 absolutely, he’s an excellent option, but he hasn’t lit up first class cricket yet.

I think they need to start moving on from some of the test players in limited overs formats. You can prolong Smith’s career by making him a test only player – you lose nothing having a Matt Short instead of Smith in T20.
Starc should probably go the other way and become a limited overs only bowler.
Other countries are figuring this out, we are too stubborn and pick the same old guard.

Difference is picking Western Australian’s was actually based on form.

Who would’ve thought that picking lots of players from the state that wins everything would actually work?

Cummins as all format captain is the most dreadful idea ever – he isn’t even a walk up start in limited overs cricket for mine.
Needs to seriously work on his captaincy just at Test level.

Marsh is a brilliant captain – those who haven’t watched WA may not have seen it, but he’s very tactically astute, not conservative at all and has a lot of confidence in young players – as can be seen by the way he’s backed in Tanveer Sangha and Aaron Hardie already.
In fact, he has far more credibility as a captain than Pat Cummins does – but he isn’t from NSW.

Where are you getting that information?

I still don’t think his season was that great this year – got more of the ball, given he was played more on the wing and less in the forward line, but still wasn’t damaging. Certainly wasn’t as good as Acres was last year. Think we made a mistake lowballing Blake.
I do agree about Colin Young though.

That’s all i’d rate him as realistically. Was a high end pick so Freo will try for more – but I don’t see how he’s worth too much given his body of work isn’t great.

Can say the same thing about Toby though – singlehandedly dragged a less talented team than Bont did too.
I’m not arguing against Bont, I wouldn’t had had any issues if it was him, but I don’t get the anti Toby brigade, he’s one of the best leaders in the comp.

Perhaps, but the top end talent is as good as their is in the competition. You can’t argue the Dogs haven’t underachieved this year given their embarrassment of riches both in the midfield and up forward.

Hmm – fair enough, I think both are brilliant players, but Toby is the one I’d have and I think he’s a better captain too. Just my opinion.

I still don’t rate him – average disposal.

Not going to lose any sleep on Liam Henry leaving – average footballer, doesn’t go in hard at the footy and has poor disposal. Realistically the only reason he has any currency is because he was a high draft pick.
Not best 22 if everyone was fit at Freo.

In terms of being an inspirational on field leader – Greene is miles ahead of Bont. Greene lead a far less talented team on paper into the finals at the expense of Bont’s star studded Bulldogs. Just because Bont is an articulate speaker doesn’t necessarily make him a better captain than Toby. Toby is the kind of guy that you’d wanna be in the ‘trenches’ with – for want of a better saying.
In fact, every time I’ve been asked if I could have one player at Freo from any other club, I’ve answered Toby Greene, he is an absolute superstar and am glad he got AA captain.

I can’t see him being anywhere near Top 10, and if he is the Umps have had an absolute mare.

Yep being good for half a season shouldn’t result in AA. Consistent performances across the entire season count for more.

Don’t think missing Dusty was an error at all – the 22 picked ahead of him were better for longer this year, consistency should result in AA over a few good games at the end of the year.
Glad Serong got in – well deserved for hopefully Freo’s captain next year.

Interested to see what the Eagles do – Curtin being home grown might tempt them a lot – particularly if you trade down and get 2 and something else from North – really depends how much they rate Reid over Curtin and whether you back your culture to keep Reid at the club and not have a JHF situation.
I personally think WCE are far better placed to keep Reid than what North were. Been poor on field but still so strong off the park.

AFL Rising Star Power Rankings: Every nominee rated from 1-24 - is it Sheezel's to lose in the best crop of young guns ever?

Played 3 games (2 were finals) in 2022 and had a serious kidney injury – most of 2022 was a write off.

I’ll get accused of being biased – but if Amiss played for any side I’d still have the same opinion. His season, as a teenager, playing in a dysfunctional forward line and always getting the number 1 defender at 19 and still kicking over 40 goals is more impressive than Sheezel stat padding off the half – back flank.
I’d rate the top 4 as Amiss, Owens, Ashcroft, Sheezel – in that order. The two forwards play a tougher position than the two midfield/half backs and are looked past because they don’t get as many possessions.

Hard to disagree with many here – pretty good effort.
I’d probably go Serong over one of Viney or Liberatore – you could argue Caleb has basically done the heavy lifting at Freo just about on his own this year given Brayshaw had a poor year.
I’d also try squeeze big Souv Larkey in there somehow – probably at the expense of Daniher, yeah I know 3 key forwards seems a bit much but his season is pretty astounding given how poor his team was.

The Roar's predicted AFL All-Australian team: Dusty must make the cut... but who should be left out for him?

Australia won’t make it out of the group tbh – it’ll be Fiji and Wales.
All this confidence and why? The coach has genuinely lost the plot.
Literally the worst Australian team in any sport right now – thank god for the Matildas.
