A sports fan generally, but a soft spot for AFL, Rugby Union, Rugby League and Cricket.

Geez Sua Fa’alogo looks the goods but can we talk about Greg Anderson for a second? The bloke runs so smoothly, reminds me of Greg Inglis. Glides across the turf with his head still.

ANALYSIS: Broncos minor premiership stalls as Storm streak hits 14 in a row - with rookie Fa'alogo stealing the show

Last time I checked the rules came in so teams had specialist front row replacements so that noone broke their necks in a scrum engagement. The only risk I see with a bench without backs is a poor old replacement hooker having to play on the wing!

Are we witnessing the benefits of Fiji’s inclusion in Super Rugby Pacific? I’d love to see them go deep in the World Cup.

'Always illegal': World Rugby successful in appeal as Owen Farrell banned for start of World Cup

He’s a professional, fulltime rugby coach. I think he should prioritise his time between the Wallabies and Wallaroos appropriately according to the respective RWC cycles. Get a month off after Paris, and then roll up his sleeves for the Wallaroos campaign on 2025.

'It has been impossible': When it comes to his 'secondary' job Eddie Everywhere has been more like the invisible man

If the game is to remain a robust, full contact sport it needs to be safe to play. Tackles need to executed in a technically correct way to protect not only ball carrier, but the tackler themselves. A standard must be set, and a message clearly sent, and there must be a consequence that makes all players, at all levels pay attention.

'Disgusting circus': Andy Farrell slams treatment of Owen as World Rugby appeals against England star's reprieve

Hi Paul, thanks for your article. I think the Melbourne Storm are an interesting case study for expansion.

At the time, the risk in Melbourne was carving a boutique niche in AFL heartland.

With the incursion into Perth gaining momentum I think there’s an added element in the Western Force that needs to be considered. There was no union alternative in Melbourne 25 years ago. I’m not saying rugby union and league can’t live side by side. I’m a member of both Storm and the Rebels myself but this will be a market where two winter codes have an established, embedded presence. The Western Force were literally disenfranchised from Super Rugby several years ago which galvanised their already rusted on fans. It’s going to be harder to win the hearts and minds over there than some might think.

PNG bid has potential but NRL can’t have further expansion without the three Rs - relocation, relegation or rationalisation

Didn’t have the intestinal fortitude to make the call based on the video evidence. May be they didn’t want the perception of bias. To be honest, may be not a good idea to have 3 people from the one union on the panel.

'Mockery', 'broken game', 'laughing stock': Rugby rages as red card reversal clears Owen Farrell for World Cup

Sorry @jameswm, I didn’t construct my post properly… I was trying to suggest (clearly not well enough) was that there’s absolutely no reason to let him off the hook!

On reflection Bourke’s my response should have been No, I’m not employed by The Roar but geez I’d like to be! I used to churn out articles for SARugby.com, the Rebels website and their match day program – all for the love of the game. Didn’t pay the bills though…

No. I wrote 1 article about 12 years ago. Just a pathological optimist and general sports lover like so many others here. Feel free to check my article and comment history, it’s all public.

Massive calls made to build this squad, and I applaud EJ for having the courage to make these selections. Reputations don’t win World Cups. I know some people will come back and say experience counts, but I’m honestly optimistic. On a side note, Christy thanks for your brilliant coverage so far. Will you be heading to Paris?

Massive year. He’s gone from being To’omua’s understudy to the Wallabies starting flyhalf. Just massive!

Did anyone keep track of how many balls were replaced in the series as a whole? A lot of talk has been on that swap in the fifth teat, but it was a regular occurence during the entire series.

There's an easy solution to 'Ball-change-gate' - and fixing it could also solve Test cricket's biggest problem

Much better today. Still not good enough for the win but much better. Carter hitting the post was a key moment but losing the attacking line out from Gordon’s 50-22 is unforgivable.

So may be for future away series our messages to England can be “don’t worry lads, we’ll bring the balls…”

Yes, I was going to say exactly the same thing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many balls replaced. The Duke manufacturer needs to have an honest review about the durability of the product, and the ECB might just need to import Kookaburras. I’m also wondering if the ball manufacturers can treat the leather to mimic the wear of the ball in 15 over increments? It might solve the problem of spare balls on hand.

He’s just sent a clear public message to Carter Gordon that he trusts him to get it right. Who wouldn’t want a boss that would do the same for them?

'Load of rubbish': Eddie slams Carter critique ahead of ABs rematch, says Wallabies must 'invest' in young 10

Great to see such a forward thinking arrangement. I think RA should consider developing this as the norm, instead of players drifting off to Japan or France to top up their super.

His kicking was a bit off. Having not played rugby myself in over 30 years and never kicked a Gilbert in a game, my only conclusion is that his was lacking a bit of rhythm and he’ll learn from it.
