Yeah – I think the Warriors have been saving themselves a bit for this one after going up against some lesser teams in the past month or so. Plus coach Webster going back to where he was an assistant and would like to make a statement. Wouldn’t surprise me if this is a boilover which would really throw the finals into disarray.

Finals Week 1 Teams: Several stars racing the clock to be fit for playoffs, Kris crossed out with lengthy spear tackle ban

Hey DPS – just wanted to say congrats on taking out the The Roar NRL tipping title – by the barest 1 point margin.

Great effort as you’ve been heading the field for some time and would have had sweaty palms trying to hang on to your lead.

I cracked the top 10 for the first time so have to be happy with that.

Round 27 Talking Points: And then there were eight - the key factors that will make or break finals hopes

I’m with you on that one – I thought losing Kafusi and the Bromwich brothers would be the final nail in the coffin for the Storm – plus no Paps for most of the year – but no the Terminator still has its red eyes flickering. Credit to the Storm team and Craig Bellamy. And not only that their reserves team seems to have some great young talent as well with young Wishart and Faalago.

Reminds me of the Nick Cotric spear tackle a few seasons ago. Came out of nowhere – a tackle that goes badly wrong – no prior record and nothing since. No malice no intent. But its a spear tackle. And you have to cop the consequences. 4 weeks sounds about right. Calls for 8 are ridiculous.

Tupou is a huge out on top of Joey Manu – that Roosters back 5 has lost a bit of its star power. But the Rabbitohs team looks pretty ordinary as well. No Tom Burgess. I don’t rate Chee-Kam at 12 and their bench looks really thin on quality. Its become a tougher game to pick with all the outs.

NRL Tactical Preview: Where the Roosters and Rabbitohs match will be won and lost

Jeez there are a few full backs like him going around though – Daine Laurie, Tyrell Sloan, Jayden Campbell, Jahream Bula – all brilliant but with potential to be ragdolled – even Billy Slater was pretty small. A year wasted for Savage.

NRL week 27 preview talking points: Although we've come to the end of the road… still, I can't let go

Yeah – its pretty weird putting Jack back to centre with a couple of games to go – mind you he was stinking it up at 5/8. And Frawley got shown up with his lack of pace last week.

With Jordie doing pretty well at full back in the past few weeks I guess Ricky is trying to squeeze them all in wherever – Kris, Cotric, Jack, Jarrod, Jordie, Timoko, Hopoate, Schiller – its a dogs breakfast of a back 5. Compare then with the Knights and Sharks back 5 which have been settled and very good.

You wonder why Rapana or Savage haven’t been playing FB all year. Did Savage run over Ricky’s cat or something? Any lowdown on why he’s on the outs? Too flashy and flamboyant when he should be brawling and bleeding green?

Vikings and Last Kingdom are brilliant.

Ragnar Lothbrok aka Aussie actor Travis Fimmel has been in Canberra promoting a new beer Travla at a pub called The Dock a few times this year. He gets mobbed by Brumbies and Raiders fans every time he turns up. Seems like a decent bloke. I had no idea he was an Aussie – from Echuca! Love the Viking accent. Pretty sure he’s a league and Raiders supporter more than union. He played Ragnar brilliantly. The series died a bit when he left.

Bummer – think I’ve got a subscription to just about everything bar Disney!

NRL week 27 preview talking points: Although we've come to the end of the road… still, I can't let go

Yeah – Jordie has been my favourite player since probably 2016 – but its very hard to defend some of his actions. Its the competitor in him I guess who will try anything to stop a try being scored. He puts his body on the line week in week out – but he runs a fine line. I’ll miss him more than I will Jarrod and Jack.

Might have to re-engage AJ. I got half way through episode 3 I think. My attention span isn’t as good as it was. Maybe there weren’t enough dragons or witches.

How are you feeling about Sunday? Paps and Horse are huge losses. Hope Ricky gives Trey Mooney a run. Jarrod on the bench is just weird. Given up hoping for Savage to get a run. Might have to check out the NSW Cup side on Saturday as well to see how the young blokes go.

Hi Andrew – I was a big fan of seasons 1 and 2 and re-watched a lot of it again in preparation for season 3 – but so far have been seriously underwhelmed. Even the allure of Yennifer hasn’t been enough to sustain my interest.

Sorry about the spoiler for season 3 – maybe you are more patient than me. Just seemed to be a lot of people whose names I can’t remember wandering around castles. Maybe I’ll go back when there is nothing else on. And maybe it picks up.

Thought it was Thursday for some reason – getting ahead of myself!

Round 27 Team Lists Late Mail: Manu hamstrung, long list of stars resting, Papa's year over, Ponga races clock for finals

Agree about Walsh’s reaction – he has the sort of pretty boy look that deserves to be belted – but saw the humour in it at the end of the game having a laugh and shaking Joey’s hand. And giving credit to Tapine’s competitiveness. Good to see. Might have to change my opinion of Walsh a bit. Apparently Joey was going for a square up after Walsh hit Jarrod Croker earlier.

There are 3 games that I’ve marked down to watch – Souths and Roosters on Friday, Penrith and Cowboys on Saturday and Sharks vs Raiders on a Sunday.

Might get a bit of weeding done instead in daylight hours. And have a found a Netflix series worth watching Who is Erin Carter? Doesn’t get great reviews which is surprising – we are enjoying it. Gave up on The Witcher – got very tedious in season 3.

If Rapana is on $20K a month he’s lost almost half of it in fines in the past 3 weeks. The alternative is a suspension for a week or two which penalises the team. Which one is better? Do you penalise the player or the team?

Guess the other real alternative is to cut out what he’s been doing. As a full back you can’t be everywhere and a lot of the incidents look like reactions where Rapana has been wrong footed and is attempting to stop a try. Billy Slater had a reputation for using his feet and legs to try and stop tries. Its a spur of the moment reaction. They aren’t malicious. Mind you the knees in the back of Kikau was very ordinary and unnecessary. He should have got a couple of weeks for that.

I’ve made that mistake before with the Dogs DPS. Thought they were OK against the Raiders the week before and seriously thought about changing my tip from Manly to the Dogs at the last minute but glad I didn’t. And almost tipped the Raiders to knock over the Broncos but held firm despite the emotional tie. I was dumb enough to pick the Dolphins over the Cowboys after a few close losses.

Hang in there DPS. Only 1 round to go. I’d rather someone win the tipping comp who we know. I thought you were a shoe in when you had a lead of 3 a couple of weeks ago. I’d be happy with finishing top 10 at this stage. Some tough games to pick in the final round e.g. tonight between the Broncos and Storm with so many out and the game between Souths and the Roosters is a real coin toss. Good luck with your tips.

Round 27 Team Lists Late Mail: Manu hamstrung, long list of stars resting, Papa's year over, Ponga races clock for finals

From the angle I saw I thought he would get off. No penalty awarded at the time – just looked like a good solid front on tackle. Total BS from the NRL. Ricky will be steaming. Do these turkeys even know what a shoulder charge is? Its front on chest to chest with the arms out. No attempt to turn the shoulder and hit the player high. Ridiculous decision.
Time to circle the wagons Ricky.

I think Jordan Rapana has the record this year surely – $9,000 in the past 3 weeks alone. Might have to give the take away a miss for a couple of weeks!

Ricky can’t be serious with Jarrod on the bench again. He played a massive 3 minutes last Saturday. What is the point? Surely he gives young Trey Mooney or Psami Saulo a spot on the bench. Mooney has been tearing it up in NSW Cup. Still no sign of Xavier Savage.

Interesting that Puru is also on the bench. Must be cover for Corey H at lock if he fails to get off at the judiciary tonight. From what I saw on the replay I’m not sure why Corey was cited in the first place.
