So just except your team is crap and spend the cap on beers? This year 3 teams that weren’t there last year are in and those who didn’t are 3 of 2022 prelim finalists. The table wasn’t finalised until Saturday night before finals.

I actually liken Melbourne to the Panthers in their style of play except Panthers are more structured in attack and will kick you to death. Agree their forwards do soften (I wouldn’t be surprised to NAS back on an edge to monster Mam) but most attack comes from their defensive pressure fatigue giving Grant and Munster space. Brisbane play with a 1-2 shift in the forwards and have genuine pace in the back 5. If they play 1-out they will get suffocated.

Can Bazball show the rest of the NRL finalists how to beat the Panthers?

I am a bit more confident. They are a better team than what lost to them earlier in the year and that was without Reynolds. It will be a confidence thing, if they start strong and it’s still close by the first half Brisbane will finish much stronger. I’ve already got my gf tickets, I’m riding they boys all the way to Oct. 😁

When NQ are bad they are terrible but I can’t help but think they will be better with a bit of the dead wood gone and more experience for the next gen already making a mark.

Round 27 Talking Points: And then there were eight - the key factors that will make or break finals hopes

There is no reserve grade for them. Bellamy bringing all those player up meant the Falcons got pumped on Sunday and dropped out of QRL finals.

While I am Broncos to the core and will be there Friday night, 4pm Sunday at Knights Stadium would be the place to be. I got a feeling they might blow the Raiders off the park on a fast and sunny pitch. Conversely the Warriors are probably hoping for a bit of drizzle to bring the Panthers into their world.

Based on the crowds this year I would encourage having all the finals after this round at Accor. It favours nobody and the chance to get +60k in the stands would be fantastic.

Not sure i would be dismissing the Warriors for being so conservative as not to trouble Penrith with this style of play. They have a mature style of play, experienced halves that I believe is enhanced with Martin over Metcalf. AFB is back to being the premier prop in the game and DWZ doesn’t miss many opportunities. Even their bench are all 60+ gamers. Further, with a big PI influence in the western regions, I’ll be interested to see crowd mix on Saturday night.

For mine, this year is a first in a while whereby the bottom 4 are very dangerous. The Knights are carrying huge momentum and their first is game at home. I’ve actually got more faith in Easts now with Walker back. Although Raiders and Sharks may be susceptible to the Penrith game plan

I think you’ll find he would have signed for 2 but their revised offer was one with an option in their favour. Silly decision but the ones they’ve made there after will have a longer impact. Like Parra they’ve tried to pay for an extended premiership window at the sacrifice of building/ developing consistently high talent coming through.

Letting Reynolds leave for Brisbane should always be remembered as Solly’s folly

Silly Solly but I’ll buy him a beer. 😁

Congrats Penrith on taking the MP. They took the risk and it paid off. Don’t know what happened to NQ they weren’t paying well and didn’t show up like they wanted to be involved in finals. Best write that one of and start again with the players who do want to be there.

Shout out to the Dolphins and NZ fans for the crowd and atmosphere at Suncorp yesterday. Nothing to worry about for NZ with all their players out. Now to go give it to the pennies next week.

ANALYSIS: Cleary and Cogger look ominous as Panthers seal minor premiership & Cowboys bow out, Dolphins down Wahs

Olam put on a fair show last night playing as we know he can play. However, watching him with the Falcons he seemed pretty disinterested. He rattled some bones as he does but very little of the tough stuff.

From where I was in the stands Brisbane had better shape and were creating space but the execution was poor. That intercept hits either runner it was try time. I agree the Storm came over the top and the two late tried certainly broke their backs. Smith scores when 3 blokes slide over him was pure fatigue. At one point Kevvie had 3 hookers on the field, guys who never play anywhere else in Q Cup so I’m not surprised they couldn’t close it out.

It would be good to see a Qld/NSW Cup side tour like they used to many moons ago. The difference between the two is largely where they are at in their careers, before NRL and after. TBF there is a lot of talent in the Reggie’s that would get a start in other clubs but stuck behind someone at their respective clubs.

Fogarty dominated Q Cup for years and couldn’t get a start, suddenly at 26yo he gets a go and now highly respected #7. Walker for Souths, same thing. Corey Jensen played a handful of games for NQ even though he was Prop OTY many times in Q Cup, now 29yo and he pumps out 115m a game of the bench for Brisbane.

I went and watched Falcons v Redcliffe QRL last week, it was the Faalogo v Fuller show. It is not NRL standard but it is very entertaining.

I thought Brisbane were the better team for the most part, although very disorganised when it mattered. I expected better from Madden seeing he has been there and played better in recent weeks. They may have forgot what was at stake by not taking those goals in the first half. I’m glad Sailor signed an extension earlier in the year, he is a very capable backup for any spine position. I reckon Kevvie got it wrong by having too small of a bench with 2 hookers. Mid way through both halves Melbourne were pouring up the middle. That fatigue meant veery basic misses and that cost them the game. Melbourne too good so see you next week.

Big wraps on young Faalogo. I have only seen bits of him at Q Cup and live last week. A couple of weeks ago he chipped on zero tackle from FB and blistered up the field to score.

I don’t think the last one should have been reported at all. Piakura had his feet planted when the attacker received the ball many metres away and did not move. The Melbourne player gets bustled from pillar to post and crashes into a motionless Piakura. The only way he could have prevented that was to get out of the way in the very last moment.

This should be a belter. I was on Easts until Manu got ruled out. But without Mitchell it kind of evens it out. I don’t think JWH is that big of loss. Souths are 100% reliant on Walker where Easts have 1,6&7 who can break the game open. I would be starting Arrow in place of Shaq to try win some field position.

'There’s no risk - there’s only reward': Robbo holds no fear of discipline as Roosters look to attack Rabbitohs from the off

Panthers were only down Tago and Edwards and they have won plenty without Tago. On the other hand Parra have been pumped for weeks and struggling to get over 13th & 15 placed teams. You have to give credit where it’s due they were $7.50 outsiders and didn’t give the Panthers a look in.

NRL Power Rankings: Top two, bottom six forms up as finals logjam enters last weekend

You got to go to school! I was supporting 5 kids by 11yo. Working 3 jobs back to back doing 12hr shifts.

NRL News: Ciraldo not sorry over wrestling punishment, Hodgson quits, Raider blasts 'outrageous' fines

I understand that, however, the assertion that a kid has a better chance of walking into an NRL team let alone succeed then into RU is fanciful. Even a prodigy is just another kid in NRL as evidenced by Suaali’i. Having 17 clubs means 30 full rosters of talented prodigies you must succeed in just to get noticed at NRL level.

I agree that RA buying NRL players on inflated contracts does little to promote RA pathways but the guys Eddie was mentioning are the 0.01%. He’s targeting more than talent he wants seasoned professionals with a very high standard.

RA might be better advised sending kids to NZ to develop. It’s a hit to the ego but if they can get through the grades and make a SR NZ team and still stand out it will benefit the WBs. NZ league has benefited greatly from NRL development.

A crying shame for the Wallabies: The problems Cam Murray would have solved

This 16yo has to be good enough that attracts the attention of an NRL club. Then play Colts, then play Harold Matts or NSW Cup against grown, seasoned men all of whom were previous prodigies and schoolboys stars. Avoid injury and maintaining a high standard that the first grade coach recognises you. Most likely 19-20yo by now, as Murray was when he debuted. Hopefully they are not playing in the same position as an existing rep player in the team as to actually earn a start. He better hope he chose a good club to get a few wins and show his skills off because plenty of talented kids spend years at bad clubs ala James Tedesco. Spend another 6 years playing first grade and if good enough you might get a call up amongst the best 25 in the state. At this point you will already be earning very high 6-figure income. In the best case scenario he replicates Murray and becomes a great player, Capt no less, in a good team and earning $1.2m p/a in a club owned by movie stars and billionaires. Finally RA comes calling with a $1.5m contract to play for the Tahs and he is just going to bounce over as this was the plan all along?

We didn’t complain. Didn’t see 40yo but but the stories were worth it.

NRL News: Ciraldo not sorry over wrestling punishment, Hodgson quits, Raider blasts 'outrageous' fines

What we are missing is context. This may be a known punishment. Other clubs stand players down. It’s about standards. Make a habit of leaving early. The slow grandma in front of you doesn’t care if you’re running late, not her fault. That said, if there was a genuine reason with management informed then give the kid a break.

Back in my day it would 4 laps with a wrestle on each corner after walking 15 miles in the snow after an 18hr shift down the mines.

It’s true that the more you have the more you spend but his mortgage is irrelevant. All 3 fines were avoidable. He could choose the suspension (which he should have received) but then he’ll get “Matterson’d”.
