Thanks, I’m thinking the same.

It is a great venue to watch both Football codes. Must admit I have not been out to Redcliffe, but will be getting along to Suncorp along with plenty of family and friends.

Have to say I do like the appointment of Ross Aloisi as well.

Whisper it quietly, but Brisbane Roar should be contenders under Ross Aloisi

Lionheart,

You seem to have a good connection with the Club, do you think the move back to Suncorp is a positive one overall?
Cheers

17.16 twirl away.

The funniest bit was that they did not just break, but absolutely smashed every long-standing Australian TV Ratings Record previously only held by our male sportsmen.

The Women’s Football World Cup has changed the face of Australian Sport, and for the better.

Not only was it the biggest single sport event in Australia, it was the biggest and best Women’s Football World Cup ever.

Football fans showed how much bigger our game really is.

Clearly some from the aus rule code are still struggling to come to grips with this new reality. I enjoy it all.

Go the Boomers !

It seems you have quite a chip on your shoulder.

The 17.16 must have made your head twirl.

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

I didn’t know that. But, I think I may have been caught out on this before with some Football mates.

I have a funny feeling that the club is neither Wednesday or United but another club??

Football can thank heavens Adidas puts out a new ball for every World Cup.

I can still hear the screams from the keepers the WC they made some radical weight alterations to lighten the ball.

Still remember Cristiano Ronaldo’s unbelievable swerving freekicks as well !

The World’s oldest surviving Football Club is Sheffield FC founded in 1857

And a tourist attraction to boot !

I have only seen the QLD numbers which I think was before the Matilda’s lost the semi to England and therefore played in Brisbane again on the Saturday night..

The 2023 Women’s Football World Cup was a screamer of a goal for QLD providing a $1.55 Billion boost to the economy.

Go the Tillies !!

I can sense your frustration, no amount of whining can change the facts.

The Australian Sports Commission Ausplay results again show Football is more than twice the size of the aus rules.

Any way you or the aus rules try and slice it, view it, cook it, or dice it, the Ausplay data will show the same result.

The funniest thing though, the aus rules have again been caught including its 5 session after-school kicks as ‘playing aus rules’ !

Which reminds me of that great Eagles song…. Desperado..

Anyway, I think the ASC are being really conservative, ask any Football coach you like and they will tell you the aus rules grounds are empty night after night, while the Football fields are literally teeming with players.

Football is so much bigger than the aus rules.

Keep your eye out as you drive around this weekend, you will see the aus rules ground empty, then have a look at the Football fields, they will be buzzing.

You don’t need any stats to see Football is 4/5 times at least, bigger than the aus rules.

Ahh.. that’s what they call.. using the spray.

Couple of factchecks for you –

The Australian Sports Commission Ausplay report is the largest and most comprehensive Survey of its kind in Australia. The survey has now had more than 140k + respondents. Each year the results are the same.

The 2023 Ausplay data shows again, and again, and again, and again that –

Yes, Football in Australia is the biggest code and by a substantial margin. In fact, Football is more than twice the size of the aus rules.

You also say that our best Australian Football players playing overseas in top Professional Football Leagues ‘has nothing to do with the Australian domestic market and Government funding’.

Well, of course you would say that wouldn’t you. Australia’s best young Football stars playing overseas is anathema to the aus rules.

And here’s why –

Australia has more than 300 men and women playing overseas. Football gives our best young stars the opportunity to play the game they love, earn a great living and travel, experience and see the world. Many are successful, some more are very successful, you just have to look at our Matilda’s and Socceroos to see that.

Sam Kerr earns more money than our nrl and rugby league men. In September she will be the face of Football along with Kylian MBappe on FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition.

As Sam has said, nothing can give me what Football has given me.

These young stars play their careers earning insane amounts of money, but they and their accountants are not silly. They all have Retirement Plans that largely involve investing back into Australia and Australian companies. Before you ask, yes I know this first hand. So bringing money back into the Australian economy.

So here’s an idea – The Albanese Labor Government is investing in skills and education, value-adding they say. Why not invest $250 million into a state-of-the-art Football School of Excellence. Guess what the Spanish government does.

It would be a win- win for Australia and Football.

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

You gave it away when you said ‘The key here is that in NORMAL grants – soccer did quite well’.

The afl is currently facing 2 increasingly damaging CTE Lawsuits that are growing by the day. Word is there are others in the evidence gathering stage, that will blow the socks off everyone.

The afl is desperately trying to gather as much Government funding that they can, as quickly as they can, by whatever means they can. I think now might be the perfect time to refer all ‘Government funding of the afl’ to the ICAC, any whistleblowers out there?

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

The only factual part of that diatribe was – ‘everyone knows how big FIFA is. Everyone knows how big the WC is’.

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

It’s certainly the Lawyers favourite game.

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

You are clearly not facing reality.

How embarrassing for both you and the afl.

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

Yeah mate – the truth is the small-mindedness and insular mentality of the boring ‘afl-hater’ never ceases to amaze those of us that support Football.

It’s a real shame though, because my son and plenty of his afl mates who are not ‘afl-haters’ btw always get down to Fed Square EVERY time, just to join the Football party. They reckon it is the highlight of the year because it is a spontaneous celebration of Football !

They go there to watch and support our best Australian Footballers representing us all on the World stage. In fact 17.16 Million Aussies watched our Matilda’s World Cup semi-final v England.

Our very best Football stars, male and female are playing in Professional Leagues right across the world. Millions of Aussies watch and support them every week playing in England, Scotland, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, South Korea, Japan etc etc.

In fact plenty will be watching Hayley Raso as she plays for Real Madrid FC against Barcelona FC next season. The last time the teams met was in front of a 103 000 crowd at the Nou Camp.

Big Ange is now Manager of one of the top 10 biggest Football Clubs in the World.

Football Australia have just co-hosted with our Kiwi friends the biggest and best Women’s Football World Cup ever. It is the biggest single-sport event ever held in this country.

Football is so much bigger than you think Munro.

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

It is the reason they all whine.

Football is the one thing they can never be, the thing no amount of marketing or coerced funding can buy… the biggest code in Australia.

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

It was an ABC QLD TV graphic, no mention of women only matt.

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

I posted an ABC QLD TV graphic that exposes the shameful under-funding of Australia’s biggest sporting code.

The question everyone is asking is, given the Australian Sports Commission 2023 Ausplay data clearly shows that –

Football in Australia is more than twice the size of the aus rules.

Do you accept that?

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

Ah yes, the afl and its social media ‘drones’, I heard about them many years ago when we valued the Gabba.

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

I hate to say this.. but am I the only one that finds this comment nonsensical?

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

… maybe you should try putting your fingers in your ears and running around stamping your feet.

The Ausplay data is the single-source participation data currency for Government and the sports sector

Ausplay is funded and led by the Australian Sports Commission

The Australian Sports Commission 2023 Ausplay data again shows that Football is more than twice the size of the aus rules.

Over 140k + respondents have helped to make up the survey, it is the largest and most comprehensive of its kind.

The results are always the same. Football is more than twice the size of the aus rules.

In fact, you just have to drive around on any weekend, right around the country to see it.

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

There is certainly plenty of hyperbole in that lot, including the usual attempts to constrain and define Football to what suits your own agenda. So allow me to add a healthy serving of Facts from the Australian Sports Commission.

Ausplay is funded and led by the Australian Sports Commission

Ausplay is the single-source participation data currency for Government and the sports sector

Why does the Government and the sports sector use the ASC Ausplay data you might ask?

Well, some will say it is because the aus rules have already been caught red-handed, over-inflating playing numbers in Sydney by up to 200% !

Others might say, it is because the aus rules were caught red-handed yet again, once more over-inflating their playing numbers a second time, but this time…. wait for it….by 700% ! In a shameful and grubby attempt to claim field’s already being used for Football !

But others again might say it was the time the aus rules decided to be really cunning and sly, by quietly including those school kids that had attended just 5 after-school aus kicking sessions in their participation numbers. Football responded the next year saying, well if you want to include just 5 after-school sessions as playing aus rules, then you really should include the thousands of kids and adults that actually compete in real Indoor Football Competitions.

The ASC 2023 Ausplay data shows that Football is twice the size of the other codes, including the aus rules code. It also shows that Football in the last 12 months has grown at a faster rate than it has in the previous 6 years.

Football deserves more funding urgently. The time is now Annastacia, the girls deserve it.

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

ABC reported the following –
Infrastructure Funding Per Participant
Rugby league $ 787
Rugby union $ 745
Aus rules. $ 550
Netball. $193
Cricket. $ 117
Football. $ 116

Shame !

Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL

I really should take the Australian Sports Commission’s lead (what would they know) and use the Ausplay single-source participation data currency used by Governments and the sport sector.

Why does the Government and the sport sector use the ASC Ausplay data you might ask?

Well, some will say it is because the aus rules have already been caught red-handed, over-inflating playing numbers in Sydney by up to 200% !

Others might say it is because the aus rules were caught red-handed again, over-inflating their playing numbers a second time, this time… wait for it…by 700% ! In a shameful attempt to claim fields already being used for Football !

But others again might say it was the time the aus rules decided to be really cunning and sly, by including school kids attending their 5 session after-school aus kick program in their numbers. Football responded the next year saying, well if you want to include 5 after-school sessions as playing aus rules, then you really should include thousands of kids and adults playing indoor football competitions.

You say you know all about Ausplay, but then blatantly disregard and deliberately downplay the data. The Ausplay data is much more comprehensive and includes ALL Participants rather than a selected few that clearly, some will use to suit their own agenda.

I will also rely on the 2023 data as well Mike, you know the latest data used by the ASC. The current state of play shows once again, that yes, Football is more than twice the size of the aus rules.

You have tried to downplay the Ausplay stats to suit your own agenda, I get that and understand that. But by any way, shape or size you like to look at or interpret the Australian Sports Commission’s Ausplay figures, you will come up with the very same outcome.

Australian Football is indeed more than twice the size of the aus rules and it is growing rapidly.

It's time for football in Australia to grow up and stop being so naïve

Oh dear.. 17.16 Million Aussies just watched the Matilda’s play.
The Wednesday before 11.15 Million Aussies watched the Matilda’s play.

Pssst Brett… I’ve got a secret for you, half of them watch Football every week here in Australia.

But whatever you do Brett, do NOT admit this to anyone!

Keep it to yourself Brett, because believe it or not, there are still some dinosaurs out there that still think the only way you can watch sport is on free-to -air tv. ))
