atm Id agree with you.. I really dont get with the persistance with Fernandes and Casemiro in the second half. They lacked vitality, needed Fred I think but he’s gone.
And the subs which came on didnt show much energy themselves.

I not sure what stats Rec is but she topped that HOWEVER her pass stats was 74% way below Cooney-Cross. recovered? received?

We do need other countries..we really dont have enough of the right stadiums for the Mens WC – and I dont see the Govt giving us enough money to build them all – and in time! Mind you including Singapore as some have indicated would seem stupid. It only adds 1 stadium and countless more hassles.

0Ive been forced to become a bit of a fanboy! I noticed how she was often ignored in writeups, or written about a bit disparingly, so Ive taken to watching her closely. Her style might look a bit laconic but she’s surprisingly fast. And I saw her win possession battles with multi English players.

“and didn’t put a foot wrong,” lol I could name at least 3 occasions she ‘put a foot wrong’ and her lack of pace was the main reason the defence cracked under pressure..
to quote Mike ” Polkinghorne will get murdered on the break by Hemp. She’s been ruthlessly exposed at times by England’s pace.”

“Cooney-Cross looked done in in the second half ” not at the same game as me..it was Gorry that was done. Cooney-Cross was great all game but showed up even more in the second half.

some great comments mixed with some rubbish ones.

“I would have moved Raso central alongside Kerr taken Fowler offwhere England are slow centrally ” Raso is NOT a central player and was doing fine on the wing. She shouldve been replaced by Vine earlier tho. Fowler was superb second half.

“The I would have replaced Cooney Cross with Chidiac.” now this is plain nonsense. For some reason people treat Gorry as a goddess, she was the one to be replaced. Watch theh game again, Cooney-Cross was our best player all night.

Im guessing the plan was to start steady..it worked against France after they were caught out early by France in the friendly. It may have worked as the England team was clearly out of sync until they scored BUT poor defence let us down. I didnt see it at the time but maybe there was an element of tiredness involved.

To repeat it was Polkinghorne created the defence problems thou Carpenters defensive work has always been a little dodgy. I mightve played Grant earlier in the tourney.

I woudlve like to have seen Grant given a run. I think she is better defensively and stronger in the tackle. We lost most 50/50s.
ps easy to say now but whilst I understand Polkinghorne being played a gamble using GGrant instead – easy to say in hindsight! 😊
