Guess what, sadly, I tend to agree based on past ‘best’ practise 😢 😢 😢

It's time for football in Australia to grow up and stop being so naïve

Need to have a broad discussion about how we move from here. Not saying football should get 100% but if it wasn’t for this tournament we wouldn’t be having this discussion and politicians wouldn’t have been seen falling over themselves to be splashing the cash.

It's time for football in Australia to grow up and stop being so naïve

Forget about TG, the more urgent issues revolve around where football in Australia goes from here .

This tournament has probably done more to break through for football in Australia than any Socceroos ahievement of the past. The attendance and media figures don’t lie.

Dutton said he wanted to spend $250M and Albo said he’d put $200M towards improving female sporting infrastructure, etc. All this on the back of the Matildas rocketing football and womens sport into the public conscientiousness. The AFL, NRL, netball don’t come close, not anywhere near, to what the Matildas and football have done in the last month.

So where would the $250M/$200M be spent? Will the AFL/NRL/etc come to the fed govt, via the back door, and ask for the lions share? You bet they’re already working the corridors of power.

This. “James Johnson should stick around for 12-18 months to capitalize on this tournament and turn goodwill into cash, he might be the administrator shrewd enough to do it.”

All A-league clubs and supporters have to publicly disown this behaviour. Strongly. These flare throws are not supporters, they are a blight on the football landscape.

At AAMI Park, stadium security has been accused by police of being lacklustre, to put it mildly. They need to lift their game.

If fans have been charged and fined for letting off flares, then a summary of those charges and fines should be publicised and made known to the community. An ongoing series of announcements of this type before A-league games via the big screen would be welcome.

We all just have to be more proactive and eventually the penny might drop amongst the young try-hards.

World Cup Diary: Matildas star to miss again, Tony G in frame for US job, Fed Square live site canned

I recently went to a suburban ground to watch City take on Oakleigh Cannons in a FA Cup match in which we fell over the line 3:2. A few of our new recruits took to the field and looked pretty good. I think what was missing was match fitness and team cohesion – it will come. Yes, I’m getting excited. Oh, and it looked like a few mindless City supporters let off flares at this game. Speechless 😱

So a bunch of mostly male drop deads with the same mentality as the Christmas Derby mob decided to invade and disturb a crowd at Fed Square watching a womens WC match. Just let that sink in for a bit.

The fed govt gifted nearly $300M to build an oval stadium in Hobart and upgrades in Launceston as part of the AFL’s demand in return for an AFL team in Tassie. How good is that? $300M for a state team playing in a competition that has no international profile, etc, etc.

'We don't want to make World Cups, we want to win one': Matildas inspire nation as calls grow for football home to rival England's

Apologies. Total cost of ground is $750M, feds to commit $240M

OK, only a lazy $240M.

Matildas smash ratings records with quarter-final triumph - and there's more to come

I think Ian Wright agrees with me 👍

‘All I’m hearing is public holiday this and that. Rather hold the government to investing in a clear plan for football and infrastructure.’

Matildas smash ratings records with quarter-final triumph - and there's more to come

Great stuff. When will all this love turn into hard cash spent by govts on supporting football per capita -participant as they do for the other codes? And what about the lazy $700M the fed govt are putting into Tassie to help the AFL down there in Hobart! There are no rectangular stadiums in Melbourne that are up to hosting large numbers sufficient for a FIFA WC final. Thanks for the suggestion of a public holiday but that’s just tokenistic. What about laying money on the table thank you 😔 😔 😔

Yes but I guess the structure of the tournament is ultimately decided by FIFA taking into account matters wider than those just pertaining to AU/JPN/NZ.

'I’ll be supporting whoever plays against Australia': Are people engaging with the Women’s World Cup, or just along for the ride?

Because us poor Melbournians, at the centre of the sporting universe, deserve to have some soccer-time. And we come out in droves when we do, and hang out at Fed Square in the middle of the night to see the Socceroos at world cups. We’re not too bad as supporters go. Sir/Madam.

An emotional mess in Melbourne: How AAMI Park faithful helped Matildas over the line

Tone’s tenure as Matilda’s coach could make up a season’s worth of episodes of Ted Lasso.

Dropping like flies: Gustavsson's selection gaffe leaves Matildas short heading into Nigeria clash

Went to Germany v Morocco last and a highly entertainig game it was with Deutschland just too clinical and efficient. Where have I heard that before 😂

The Women's World Cup will succeed in spite of mainstream media, not because of it

Count yourself luky that you don’t live in Melbourne. Imagine being a football supporter here?

Melbourne got exactly what it wanted from the FIFA Women's World Cup

We have our tickets, Germany v Morocco, AAMI stadium 👍 👍

No need to panic: Fans won't miss out as WWC nears

Correct. The AFL juggernaut sucks the oxygen out of the media coverage in Vic and football is lucky to be given much time apart for Socceroos, Matildas and travelling international circuses like ManU, etc.

Beautiful game in a beautiful place: Australia on the verge of becoming a real football nation

It looks like our media is anxious to run stories on Ange so all in all, the general sports loving fan in Oz appears proud of Ange – even if they show minor interest in the greatest little league in the world, the A-leagues!!! Our grand final was way more entertaining than the Champions League rubbish 😂 😂 😂

Why shouldn't Australians be proud of Ange Postecoglou joining Tottenham?

Exactly what I was going to write 👍

The question for Football Australia is how to commemorate Rale’s legacy.

'True blue Aussie' Rale Rasic, the first Socceroos coach to reach the World Cup finals, has died

Great comment. Thanks.

Ah, winning against Fiorentina. It triggered my memory of reading George Negus’ book “the world from ITALY Football, Food and Politics” in which he, with his family, spends a working sabbatical in 1999 in a Tuscan town just south of Florence. He adopts Fiorentina as his side and has a wow of a time. OK, this result won’t go down too well with George 😂

And the book is a good read to boot!

European trophy the beginning of a West Ham dynasty... yeah, right!

'True blue Aussie' Rale Rasic, the first Socceroos coach to reach the World Cup finals, has died

Honestly, it feels like a death in the family, and I didn’t know him personally. He coached Footscray JUST where I played in my junior years. A statue needs to be erected.
