Whisper it quietly, but Brisbane Roar should be contenders under Ross Aloisi

This team is representing the state where football is the most popular sport to participate in. They have produced nearly half our Matildas squad and many players for other A Leagues men’s teams. Under Kaz Patafta, Zac Anderson and Ross Aloisi they are apparently forming a closer bond with Queensland football that produces these talented players. Now, hopefully, they can retain their talent and bring back more of their players over time. The Ange Postecoglou influence is hopefully here again. After a year of working with Muscat, a Postecoglou “disciple”, Aloisi could be a wonderful blend of tough task master and attractive attacking football. I certainly hope so because we all want to see Brisbane roar again!

Well written Sheek. It seems so simple to the average, decent person. If you do something/say something and many people indicate you’ve done/said the wrong thing then you probably have. It’s just like a corrupt politician trying to hang onto his/her position. When he/she finally goes there will be a huge sigh of relief and he will be gone.

No one wants him to remain – the women and the men – he should just go.

He’ll be back, but his Socceroos dream is over. No more World Cups for Jason. I think he might have been a bit like JMac – a very good A Leagues striker, but not quite an international one.

Silvera and Burgess lead Socceroos new breed as Arnold reveals why he rejected Hibs

I like the look of Sydney. These young guys – Kurcharski, Aminitides, Girdwoid-Reich, Gurd, Adams, Holman mixed in with Rodwell, Mac, Lolley, Caceras and a new striker. This could be an exciting year. A bit Mariners/AU like plus some experienced top level players.

Except he’s getting better with age and he has decided to stay with the Socceroos.

Perhaps a Sydney FC v Metrostars final.

He turned it down – staying with The Socceroos.

And from that piddly pool of players they play the “greatest game” in the “rugby league world” – State of Origin! NSW v Queensland is the “greatest game” in their “world”! That’s the top of their totem pole. Imagine if the greatest game (or top of the totem pole) in any other real sport was NSW v Queensland. Tennis, Basketball, Athletics, Boxing, Swimming, Cricket, Rugby Union, etc. People just don’t realise how duped they are. That is the joke that makes our sides hurt with laughter.

The world's noticing Australia's football talent - maybe some of our locals should too

He is a left back, which is very handy, especially with Bos injured. Bos, Behic, Burgess and King – that’s a lot of competition for that position. He is also a former Australian youth representative, so he has been part of our set up. Arnold just needs to be get Volpato over the line now.

I’ll keep my eye on them in round 1. It’s interesting how we are all more interested (assuming that is true for others) in the women’s game. The Matildas effect continues. I’m now really interested in young women coming through for The Matildas as I am for young men and The Socceroos.

Just read that – keep producing them!

Thought the same – and rugby union too? I know we’ve had the same questions before. How is it that rugby league, with a very small talent pool and our Kangaroos are no guarantees against Samoa and NZ (both small countries where league is not the main game) is considered in this way? In league the highest quality is NSW v QLD from very tiny talent pools and it is high standard? The highest standard of AFL is Richmond v Collingwood, with no comparisons to anything else anywhere. What is the standard! Football has the most participants from the same talent pool – Australia. Logic says that football gets more of everything to choose players from – the talented, the average and the less than average. I know throughout my schooling and my teaching that the students representing in athletics at zone, area and state did not mainly come from a league background, in fact there were less league players than representatives from other sports, such as football, basketball, water polo, netball, etc where they are more nimble.

That’s good. We’d like a longer sentence for him. He’s probably meeting up with The Hayne Plane and Brett Finch as we type. And I’m sure the NRL is a big hit in jail – there’s already a bucket load of NRL players there! It’s a shame that Sonny “fingers” Luke and others in the NRL aren’t held to account – just boys having fun according to your officials.

They won’t have anywhere near the impact of the Matildas, but a bigger impact than the Kangaroos in their pretend “world cup”.

The world's noticing Australia's football talent - maybe some of our locals should too

They have certainly produced some great players. We need all teams playing at their best and producing new talent. Imagine our A Leagues competition with all teams achieving close to 100%.

We’ll see in October – when they’re back. You’re right about forgetting though and that’s good for the NRL. Forgetting Jarrod, Dylan, TC Robati, JDB, fingers in back sides, etc. – very forgettable! Only one thing more forgettable – your inane and incorrect comments. Are you still telling mummy you want to play league? You are in the minority!

The world's noticing Australia's football talent - maybe some of our locals should too

Absolutely agree – it must be clear and obvious and scrutinising for too long goes against that concept.

The home of many of our female footballers – 10 out of the squad of 23 and Tamika Yallop is back.

Changed your tune now! Yes, more people watch the NRL than the A Leagues. I’ve never argued that. And all those participants of football and all those viewers of NRL (couldn’t care less about the very small pool of rugby league participants from 2 states only, as they wouldn’t make a dent on viewership numbers) were watching the Matildas. Our female football team out rated any rugby league game you can name – ever. Football in Australia now also leads viewership. Chew on that Brett. Perhaps I could even say – recent Matildas viewership pusses all over the NRL!

The referees explaining the decisions was great and should be used in the A Leagues. Listening to these fans of other codes, who appear to be open minded, is useful for attracting new spectators to our code. Your idea of achieving 15000 per game has a lot of merit.

You need to start your first sentence with a capital letter and finish your second with a full stop.

How’s your – when little boys grow up they tell mummy what they want to play comment going now? “In the battle of the football codes, football is an easy winner with 946,000 participants (in the 15-plus age group) ahead of Australian football with 481,000.” No boy is telling mummy, “I want to play rugby league!” Where are they on the list of popular over 15 sports? You really have no idea. And from that tiny talent pool from two states, how could you really believe that the NRL is high class. The greatest rugby league game in the world – NSW v Queensland! That’s a joke and your comments are so inaccurate they make most people laugh.
