The original 3 Amigos were Beale, JOC and Cooper. No doubt, Cipriani was that sort of bloke. I only know he was well regarded as a teammate at the Rats. Can’t speak in detail for anything else in his career although it was littered with arguments with authority

I always liked Cipriani as a player and knew nothing of him personally except that he was well regarded at the Rats in his stint there.

He will know the truth of his anecdotes or not but I’d be more inclined to believe them if he steered away from ridiculous comments like Jones “having a limited understanding of the game”.

Eddie might be all the things he accuses him of with regards mistreatment of staff but nobody surely thinks he doesn’t know rugby

I’m with you. I voted Vickerman and also expect Giffin will get the nod. I really thought Vickerman was the difference between us as also rans and a real chance in 2011.
Other things contributed as it turned out but he was world class

Those Irish backs are a proper unit. No real superstars (bar Johnny), just everybody very good at their roles in a crystal clear system.

And they’re encouraged to play.

“The alter ego of Gregor Townsend. He cashes the cheques Toonie bounced”. I’m not sure I understand this point. Townsend is the reason the Scots play as they do and was a player of that ilk himself. That he has Russell to implement the plan is fortunate but surely not a bounced cheque

He and Mark Ella are my two favourite players. Can’t split them.

Met him randomly at an empty pub in Twickenham in 2015 when I needed somewhere to watch a RC match against the Boks. He’d just signed with Wasps. Lovely bloke. Wouldn’t let me get a second beer until he knew I wasn’t driving. Oh, the pub was called The George

Yeah, he was only better than Abbott which isn’t a very high bar. His pace was consistently 90+mph in his spell in 100. Not sure what was amiss in Durban

Nice write up. Good linking Lynagh to Nard.
Cooper hasn’t been shown much love by the sport. Canned from 2019 and 2023 WC squads for lesser players, booed constantly by NZ fans and bad-mouthed by Wallaby fans as his career closed down.
If he’s not bitter and doesn’t write a book, he’s a better man than me
