I sincerely hope our managers in Australian Football never succumb to the ideology that the Premiership is of no importance—no matter who it is in the A-Leagues.

If Ross Aloisi is to be a contender, let’s hope he never rests his players on the final day, end-of-season fixture, by relinquishing the Premiership trophy and title, in favour of resting his players for the final series play-offs, as Kevin Walters did with the Brisbane Broncos.

Also, Albo has underwritten the new PNG franchise to the tune of $10m to join the NRL as a new expansion club. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Yes indeed Sheffield WD. Hopefully, one day our A-Leagues can play on pristine pitches like that; thanks to FIFA’s criteria we saw during the WWC what we can do, to improve the overall quality of our game.

If you are saying AusPlay is ‘inculpatory evidence’, i.e. evidence that shows, or trends to show, football’s ultimate direction for participation supremacy, with the current evidence, as it stands, that football (soccer) players, who are the leading young demographics in Australian sport; then yes I agree with you.

Exactly Blue007, Football has an international footprint that earns millions of dollars for the Australian economy when overseas teams come to Australia to play in events here. (Man U, Liverpool etc)
The Perth Tourist Bureau announced an $80m dollar injection into the WA economy, from a recent mini tournament involving EPL football clubs in Perth.
I can’t wait to see the figures for the recent WWC generated for the Australian economy when they are released.

Having the successful Women’s World Cup, the best ever; so the head of FIFA has declared, is not enough, to get the greatest proportion of Albos $200m for Women’s Football?

Well, then I am at a loss, for what Australian Football, has to do next, to get the pollies to fund Australian Football properly as they do for other codes in this country, and into the future.

Remembering we have the greatest international footprint in Women’s and Men’s football that transpires into millions of dollars for the Australian economy. No other code can match Football in this.

The participation numbers for football are the best in the country and we still have to beg for assistance whilst the Feds, State governments and the private sector just support the AFL at a whim.

Tassie is a prime example in that the people are now asking real questions about what in the heck is going on with their state government decision-making.

MM did you notice I used quotation marks? The Australian Sports Commission would be very interested in what you have to say, as they are very interested in the data that concerns sports participation.

If you are talking about something else, then you are off-topic, to that of what the Author Mike Meehall Wood is addressing.

Produce the names and addresses of the individuals (“actuals”) you have interviewed to support your emotional argument. Otherwise, I have to just accept your argument as just another ‘Filibuster example’ you so often post on the Football Tab.

No use whining to me about it, because you are barking up the wrong tree. This is from the author’s article:

I don’t think anyone has mentioned this, but how good were the playing surfaces in Aus/NZ?

The stadia were amazing and we can thank all the grounds men/women for producing perfect playing surfaces. Well done people, you made the Women’s World Cup such an amazing event.

Sam Kerr’s wonder goal, was directly a result of such a perfect playing surface, the ball rolling true and without a bubble travelling over the surface.

This is what I want the fringe supporters to understand; why FIFA (stadia requirements) insisted that the two weeks preparation of the playing surface is necessary.

Excellent post, Sheek. You always come to the football tab with lots of interesting, and good comments to adhere to.

As you kind of know where I stand with Tony G, he had the occasional good moment (the Canada game), but his record speaks for itself 6th to 10th ranking on the FIFA ranking scale under his watch.

Yes, there are a lot of reasons for that, not necessarily all his fault, but what is most disappointing is what he has implemented in the playing style. We were once a short passing football outfit, playing out from the back, under managers Alen Stajcic and Ante Milicic.

Now we are a long ball-playing outfit, with our goal-keep under instructions to go long on the goal kicks, where the opponent’s CB receives the ball only for them to launch another raid.

We now play a 4-4-2 system, not that there is anything really wrong with that, you can still play the short passing possession game, with short passes, and triangles.

However, clearly, he has instilled the idea in the team, that you have to go long all the time and cross the 50/50 ball into the mixer, an outdated 50s style of football that good football nations just eat up.

Anyways Sheek, I hope you enjoy the final tonight and may the best footballing team win. 😊

Yes, Sweden did. Tony G had no idea how to change the game with the players on the field. Foord was worked out very early on the flank, and so was Rasso on the opposite flank, A good manager could have stepped in and told those players to switch flanks occasionally, to add a different dimension to the attack, to unsettle Sweden’s defence. If you keep on doing the same thing and expect a different result it never happens. However, the real problem was we were out of legs in the midfield where our engine room had no control of the ball movement. Dispossessed and poor passing.

Of course, we are extremely proud of the Matildas, but we have to analyse where and why we could not get to the final. I know there is a lot of love for Tony G, but we were 6 in the rankings when he arrived and have since slipped to a 10th-ranked team just prior the the WWC. Playing a WWC on home soil, for me, we should have at least made the final with that amazing home town support. The best for all now is: that Tony G, takes that coaching job in the USA.
