There has been a lot of talk in the past week about what Fremantle should and should not be doing vis a vis trades…
I was lucky enough to attend the inaugural game of World Series Rugby last night between the new Western Force and Fiji A (Warriors).…
Well he has been coaching at the top level for nearly 30 years so its hardly surprising that he has racked up more of everything compared to others that have coached less than half that time.
RWC News: Star claims Eddie was 'like a horny teenager' asking about his sex life, Andy Farrell's epic ABs rant
Hooper wasn’t able to confirm his fitness. How on earth is a non selection of a player that isn’t fit and isn’t likely to be fit going to haunt anybody?

Sure but “Odd” behaviour doesn’t equal “Bad” coaching.

No I think that is correct. However if there is an injury after that they can replace players in the squad. Once replaced a played can’t come back. Also I think there are restrictions on replacing a player who was already injured when the squad was named. Maybe some who reads this knows for sure what the rules are as I’m not totally certain either.

Fines looked very good in his 15? Minutes last week.

Gordon kicks ok and isn’t as bad as some people make out. Obviously he’s no Dan Carter….

I have a feeling you are right but isn’t it if they are injured after the squad is announced?

Fair enough however I reckon at some point soon there are going to have to be some hard decisions made on personnel. I can see that 3 or 4 potential changes to the squad will need to be made and I am predicting these after the Georgia game. If Slipper isn’t fit for the second game and there are niggles with other props then not making the hard decision on him at that point is very risky.

I don’t see how Barrett didn’t get a red card for the no arms tackle. It started illegal and was always illegal. The original “technical” yellow isn’t really relevant for mine.
Barrett CLEARED for Rugby World Cup opener
What a complete load of drivel. You need to get that chip off your shoulder mate.

I can’t say I agree with him on how coaches form the bench. I do perhaps agree that the bench has too many players. I’d like to see the bench go back to 4 or 5 players.
Alternatively, leave it at the current number but limit the substitutions to 3 or 4 at the coaches discretion. That covers the safety element.

He certainly was that, however there were questions being asked about his selection prior to the tournament starting and whether his selection kept out better players. His performance dealt with those questions ????
To be honest, I don’t think Max J is a weakness in the Australian team. I think his eventual selection is pretty much accepted by everyone, it is just whether he should have been selected in this RWC team. I can’t think of any other unselected player that was hands down in every respect a better selection.
I don’t have the same feeling on some of the other selections. For example I think failure to select Pete Samu may be regretted at some point and I still have a concern over our props (but I don’t have a real solution to that one).

Nehe Milner-Scudder was one of those and I think he worked out ok didn’t he?

JL was there as an acknowledged rising star but there were still question marks over him in some aspects of his game (positioning and defence). However he put those questions to bed in about 5 minutes once he got to SA – but at selection time there were still some people questioning his selection.

No he didn’t mate.

Pete Samu didn’t deny it when Eddie said it publicly and there’s nothing in Pete’s interview that suggests Eddie was not being factual. I recognise it doesn’t fit your narrative to acknowledge that.

You are making a lot of statements here mate without offering any evidence. I think it’s a good idea to stick to the facts rather than just make unsubstantiated statements. The fact is that EJ has stated publicly he was the one who contacted the squad members who weren’t selected to give them the news. He said it was hard to do. No player has stated otherwise so we can assume at this stage that it is true.
EJ and several players have previously spoken about receiving feedback from Eddie over the last few months prior to selection. I think it is safe to believe them and that feedback was provided.
If players didn’t then get selected after getting feedback then what do you expect the national coach to do? He has a RWC to win and he needs to get on with it, not hold their hand.

I too think Pete should be in the Wallaby squad but that is irrelevant to what I said.
I don’t work for RA but the fact is that RA isn’t his employer. Rennie didn’t “have a two year extension” for him at all. Get your facts right.
He is employed by the Brumbies who are his employers. They decide what to offer him not RA. Plus RA never offered him a contract because they can’t. What they did was to agree to provide top up funding in 2023 for his Brumbies contract. For 2024 they decided not to provide that top up funding (as is their right) and presumably are providing it to someone else. That doesn’t stop Brumbies from offering to him, what they think he is worth. He and the Brumbies couldn’t agree on a contract number. If the Brumbies had thought he was worth it they could have offered more money, but they didn’t. That is their choice and you need to aim your words at them not RA as RA did not “block his contract.”

Jonah Lomu?

He said publicly that he did ring those players he dropped. Are you saying that he lied?

RA didn’t “block the move” at all. The only thing stopping Brumbies offering a competitive contract to Pete was the Brumbies.

While it’s hard to imagine Fines-Leleiwasa starting ahead of either McDermott or veteran Nic White, his pace and ability to cover multiple positions has him as a perfect figure to bring off the bench in Jones’ young revolution.
It’s not hard to imagine from where I sit. I rate him highly and think he’ll finish this world cup as Australia premier half back if he gets the opportunity. He is certainly Australia most versatile.
