I forgot to add les bleus we’re in front of 80000 adoring fans and playing their best available team. The French will not be happy with the Boks. How often do the ABs lose 2 in a row? The ABs will come out breathing fire in Paris.

Studs and duds: Eddie's 'wrongheaded' selections, Carter '100 percent a concern', 'weapon' fires at last

Was it really though? The French scored 4 tries to our 3. A one try margin. We missed 4 kickable goals. And we gave away many silly penalties not penalties caused by pressure. We spent a great deal of time in their half. And we are down the bottom of the top ten in world rankings. I thought after 60 minutes that it was clear the French will not win the World Cup. The Boks and the ABs won’t give away those silly penalties, will kick their goals and will convert territory into points. I’m calling au revoir mademoiselle !

I can’t see it. Boks and ABs will fight it out.

I like him a lot. He’s surprisingly quick. But scrumming is his biggest work on I think.

Or admit to being Brumbies blind.

Thanks Christy and thanks to the guys who posted the Vimeo link. My two bobs worth after watching the game and not speaking Portuguese: our scrum had more push, props stayed up most of the time and the row did their job. Swain showed us he could be something if he can only get some clarity in the red mist. Ditto Swinton. These two guys have the right attitude to take it to the opposition but need a shrink more than anything else. Can we get them both into the NPC under some kiwi direction?. They could both be fairdinkum match winners. But oh the red mist…. Samu was busy but not a 7. Uru did some good things but not at it all the time. Hooker Lonergan struggled for mine. Half back Lonergan works hard but doesn’t do it for me yet. And I’ve thought that through all his Australia A games. Plays by rote rather than read. Foley and OConnor solid. Both had good moments. Think Christy was hard on JOC re tackling. He made a few that had to be made. The one Christy referred to was less of a missed tackle than being beaten for pace on the outside. Old man issue! I’d like to see more of Daugunu at 13. Wingers solid. Pietsch is becoming next cab off the rank but hope the coaches give him a huge serve for not passing to JOC and blowing a certain try, which became a turnover and try for the Portuguese. Wright same old rocks and diamonds. Hard to give too much credit to the bench as the pace had gone off when they came on. Ned was good but not as good as made out. His try was due to a brilliant cleanout from Flook that created the quick ball needed. I’d like to see Flook tried at full back. He’s such a good reader of the game. So if I’m Eddie I see Swain and Swinton as project players I want to get their heads straight over the next few years. I think JOC is utility cover value for WC if injuries occur. Pietsch is next winger up.

This is the cheapest option. None of the club options will work without significant investment

RA's target of a third tier in 2024 raises a whole heap of questions in desperate need of answers

Yeah but they don’t count clearly

RA's target of a third tier in 2024 raises a whole heap of questions in desperate need of answers

Let’s just be pragmatic. Preservation of the Shute shield is RAs chief objective. When Waugh talks about connecting to community he means only connecting to the Sydney community. Why don’t we just make the third tier like the old ARL? We just extend the Shute shield season and use RA cash to buy the best up and coming players from interstate. So if Marley Pierce wants to play for Australia he has to come to Sydney and play for Randwick say. Tom Lynagh has to come to Sydney and play for Waringah and so on. We make the Sydney rugby union club competition the third tier. Everyone at RA is happy and we get a third tier with more games into players who may have Wallaby futures. This way we can select Wallabies straight from Randwick like the old days and not have to select them from super rugby. It’s a win win. You can’t fight city hall.

Really you should just read the RA press release. No further explanation needed. Just keep buying your tickets and merchandise, and paying your subscriptions and shut up. How dare you hold anyone accountable for giving up your hard earned cash.

Is it possible that Davis was asked to resign? Is it possible that Davis might have leaked to the media about Coopers non selection? Is it possible that Davis might have informed Cooper of his non selection? Just asking.

I didn’t see Hooper speaking passionately to the troops after the Boks loss out on the ground. Geeing them up, reminding them of what to take away, how to react to the loss. I’m not sure I ever saw Hooper do that. He was a pretty individual guy. I saw Cooper doing that in Melbourne. And I don’t think EJ liked it.

Revealed: Foley still in World Cup mix after Australia A call up, Cooper pulls pin as Hooper ruled out

Let’s be honest here. If Harry hasn’t learned that he needs to side step before colliding with the defence by now he’s probably never going to. If he hasn’t learned to soar high in the line out by now he’s probably never going to. These are the two things that he and everybody else knows prevent him from higher honors. Australia aren’t going to play him as a Kieran Read style wide runner which he is very good at. I wish we could but We don’t have enough hard close runners to afford that. So it’s Sayonara baby! Enjoy the yen or the euro, the sushi or the croissants.

I take it Quade is a short black man.

I’m a big Stewart fan. And thought his similarities to Englands Owen Farrell might have appealed to EJ. Neither are much chop as runners or crash ballers but both can play 10, go to first receiver, good kickers, are smart footballers, and good tacklers. Hamish has been the best tackling back in super rugby for the last 3 years. He can also play full back. He made 3 crucial errors in the last 2 games of the super season all of which led to tries. 2 intercepts and a misjudged cross kick. All occurred when the Force were behind and chasing the game. However I think those errors marked his card. He wouldn’t let anyone down and plays with the never say die spirit that McDermott does which EJ rightly values.

What doesn’t add up is EJ picking Foley over Cooper and saying that we were losing and something had to change. We won 5 straight under Cooper last year and lost under Foley whose time wasting cost us a win over the ABs. It looks a lot like EJ preferring a quiet yes man over a man with opinions. I thought when I saw Cooper lecturing the players after the Melbourne test I felt that he had made a tactical error. Cooper has not been part of the recent losing culture. EJ has got that wrong.

I suspect the reason might be – “there shall be no other voice but mine”.

Eddie got the date wrong. It’s not April first

Exclusive: Quade, Hooper to miss World Cup selection as Jorgensen rockets into squad

Further to that I liked the energy Noah and Tate brought to the side in the French series in Rennies first year. they made mistakes but we won and I thought the same thing happened. They brought a new energy. There’s a lot to be said for a pair of halves that have no fear and just want to take it to the opposition. Just like Genia and Cooper all those years ago.

Wallabies fans appear comfortable with 0 and 4 – but some obvious questions remain

I think Quade will be vital at the WC as a player and beyond it as a mentor. I think Eddie knows this but wanted to give Carter pressure games before the WC in case Quade gets injured again. He also was searching for a way to reenergise the side and the 2 young halves helped with that.

Wallabies fans appear comfortable with 0 and 4 – but some obvious questions remain

Yes I have and I’m assistant coaching underage sides atm. It was also my experience as a schoolboy. I toured NZ at first XV and was shocked at their intensity in the rucks. This was in the days when you could ruck people out. I still have the tag marks 40 years later! I’m finding migration is shaking things up a little but now. We have kids from NZ and SA and their parents wind them up a bit more! But our culture is different. Union in NZ is more like League here. It’s played by all classes and is a way out of the ghetto so to speak so there motivation to stick it to the man. It’s mostly a private school game here and there’s a career waiting in the finance industry should you fail at rugby!
