From quotes provided, seems Marshall never used the word aura. Where is it? added by editorial staff?
The aura was an overseas concept, Brit Paul Ackford may have started it in 2009 stating the loss of aura was going to ruin New Zealand’s World Cup party in 2011 (it didn’t) and trotted our endlessly since by journos and ex-players whenever they want to get their ‘educated’ response in the news.
Works every time.

If you care to read the judiciary report you’ll note Barrett did not dispute either yellow card.

The decision was left up to the independent judiciary committee (from England, Wales, Romania) supported by the World Rugby disciplinary officer, plus a statement from South Africa number
2, a medical report, and footage.

Perhaps at some point we can agree that they got it right, and get back to the rugby.

World Rugby’s review of S Barrett’s first yellow as follows:

“The player had made a tackle on the South Africa number
4 and got up to counter ruck. He was tackled by the South Africa number 5 and off balance he then obstructed the South Africa number 9.”

A life ban wouldn’t be enough for some here!!

WR – Scott Barrett: “The independent Judicial Committee found that sending off was a sufficient sanction in this case because the player was sent off for two yellow cards (referred to as temporary suspensions in the appendix), and the first of those yellow cards was for a technical offence following a team warning.”

Yes two yellows make a red, but example guidelines from England’s RFU has a clear differentiation as below as to the types of yellow:
RFU Regulation 19 – Discipline:
Two Yellow Cards Received.
2 technical yellow cards in a match or 1 technical and 1 Foul Play yellow card in a match
Entry Point: Sending off sufficient
2 Foul Play yellow cards in a match
Entry Point: 1 week suspension from playing

I suffered through BBC commentators in the women’s football, v Australia and again v Spain. For a commentary team going out to a global audience they were worse I thought in terms of home-team ‘superiority’ bias than even what we put up with over a super rugby season. Though to their credit they didn’t have SBW sideline.
But back to the rugby, let’s celebrate what was an historic win at Twickenham for Fiji.

Don, I missed the defensive bomb … some nzers may recall Leigh Hart (‘That Guy’ on Sports Cafe TV show) advocating for the defensive bomb to be kicked from behind your own goal line, on basis it was the last thing the opposition would be expecting. Maybe it is?

A team yellow followed by a yellow that upon review was determined not to be a red.
Where did you pluck your three weeks from?

Another one? My money remains on France.
Embarrassment? Think many supporters have been in acceptance mode since 2016, been enough losses along the way, sometimes the opposition is just better. It happens.

Aura was a mythical condition created by English media, latched onto by Australian media, to explain away their teams’ poor win rate.
Just a faded memory in 2023.

Mentioning aura and haka in consecutive posts, believe that’s a double bingo.
The treble is of course – and no doubt the media will have it diarised to bring up pre RWC – is NZ’s pillaging of PI players, the four-yearly cliche cycle repeats.

Some may have seen the NZ show The Breakdown – had ex All Black John Afoa as guest he said the cost of legal representation for an international judicial hearing was around NZ $10,000, way beyond the financial ability of many (most?) unions.

A note on the first independent judiciary committee: Casselden KC, Langford and Croft.
All highly experienced, all three were judiciary members for the 2019 RWC.
Casselden KC (as a Judicial Chair) and Langford (as a Panel member) have been named by WR for 2023 RWC.
WR has stated there will be a “One-team approach across match official and disciplinary environments”.
Let’s hope they’re all in agreement on what is/is not a red card offence

Looking at Fiji’s 23 last night, don’t believe there were any ‘new’ players by virtue of the eligibility changes.
Correction welcome but I don’t recognise any names from other international teams.

If the appeal is successful, what becomes of the three person panel who rescinded the red?
Not a good reflection on their decision so close to a World Cup.
Send them back to review citings from club games?

Interested in what teams SA and NZ put out for their match, neither has anything to prove at this point, would say their squads are fairly settled barring potential injury/ies; why risk all the first choice players?
For England, pressure on to break that losing habit.

The 2023 Super Rugby independent judiciary comprised Michael Heron KC (Chair, NZ), John Langford (Aust) and Stefan
Terblanche (SA).
Some balance there with Terblanche from SA who don’t play in that tournament.

He’s following a real coaching pathway – when he first went back to NZ he was involved with his former high school’s rugby teams, back where he started.
Different to some ex-players who suddenly take on senior coaching positions without any proven coaching background, based only upon their playing experience.
I was in New Plymouth, Taranaki, in what would have been his first year with Taranaki’s NPC side, he went to a gym on top level of the building i worked in and he’d always run up the stairs and yell out a ‘hello’ on his way past, while his team mates waited for the elevator on the ground floor. His career ended abruptly with a concussion playing for Cardiff in Italy; wish him well in the coaching world.

England played sensibly when they had twelve, won the lineout and rolled that maul with 9 players (backs joined in) to score.
Three yellows and a red, think Wales just the one yellow.

Georgia. I’ve been following Paul ‘Fish’ Tito’s coaching journey; former Taranaki, Hurricanes, Chiefs, NZ Maori, and 5yrs Cardiff Blues player.
Since his playing career ended with Cardiff he’s had assistant coaching roles with Taranaki (NPC), Pau in France, Western Force, the Wellington Lions (won NPC and Ranfurly Shield 2022), Blues (oh well…), and last year was also forwards coach for Georgia on their tour when they beat Italy and Wales.
He’s back with Georgia for 2023 RWC.

I’m expecting the offence to be mitigated to the point where he gets a full apology from the referee, the RU and whoever ran the ‘tackling school’ he took part in after a red card earlier this year . . .

Eddie has done what was needed four years ago and ripped the bandaid off. Now he's breathed life into Aussie rugby

With the retirements and moves overseas he’ll be selecting from a significantly different pool of players.
