Great article Texi. I have tickets to all 6 games in Melbourne and I cannot wait.
Does Australia care about the FIFA Women's World Cup?
DP Schaefer I agree Billy has a great life balance and don’t think he would give that up for a full time coaching role.
Ryles to Dragons all but secured as incoming coach touted to begin work at St George Illawarra next month
Good signing by the Dragons. I was hoping Ryles might be the replacement for Craig Bellamy at the Storm.
He has worked under a number of good coaches Bellamy, Eddie Jones and Trent Robinson.

NRL, AFL and netball: The ANZAC Day triple header was super
Thanks Brett for your kind words. I am a big fan of your work.
Yes, 6:30pm WST start on a Wednesday is definitely off Broadway.
I feel like the WNBL have missed an opportunity to piggy back off Women’s Basketball World Cup when promoting the season.
Although, one of the problems is the ability to obtain mainstream media coverage.
WNBL season preview: The GOAT is back with Jackson in action for Flyers
Josh the crowd was quite small for the Mali game, which was the game on Friday.
The crowds for the other Opals games v France, Serbia, Canada and Japan have been great, approx 9k and the atmosphere has been amazing.
I have loved every moment of the tournament. Bring on the quarter finals.
Why Australia should be taking a shine to gritty Opals, a gem of a team you can be proud to support
Great article Paul. The Opals have been one of the best performed Australian teams over the last 20-odd years.
The mainstream media have definitely not given them the love they deserve.

Interesting that the tea leaves are suggesting that Justin Langer will not get his contract renewed. He seems to have changed his coaching style. He coached Australia to a T20 World Cup win and Ashes victory. Surely that warrants a new contract?
If not, I don’t think Ponting will take over as coach. He may be an IPL coach but not only would he have to give that up but he would also have to give up his media role/s. I can’t see him doing that.
I would be happy with Gillespie, McDonald, Saker, Bayliss or Rogers. Or what about Greg Shipperd, if he was interested. He has been a successful coach winning multiple titles with Victoria (across all formats) and Sydney Sixers. He also coached Tasmania to Sheffield Shield finals.
If Langer is a goner, Ponting must be next in line
Brett, I agree with you. I said to a friend the other day that it could be the only test Boland ever plays. (which seems like a silly comment when he took 6/7).
However, he was behind Cummins, Hazlewood, Starc, Neser and Richardson in the pecking order just a week or so ago.
BRETT GEEVES: Boland's crushing of 'veterans fifth grade' England might not be enough for another Test
Stars haven’t just lost du Preez. Have lost Sciver (Stars leading wicket taker in WBBL 06 plus good with the bat), King (Stars leading wicket taker) plus experience of Brunt and Ferling.
I also don’t know a lot about Bouchier and Smith, so not sure how much of the gap caused by departures they can pick up.
I hope you are right.
Melbourne Stars WBBL season preview
When I wrote this article I forgot about the new finals format. Please replace Predicted finish: Semi-finalists with Predicted finish: 3rd.
Sydney Sixers WBBL season preview
Plenty of journalists have been predicting the demise of the Storm for a decade or more:
– after salary cap scandal, they only won because of salary cap;
-for a number of years after that, each year, the Big 3 are getting older;
– Cronk left then Slater left and then Cameron Smith.
Will the Storm miss Addo-Carr, Finucane and Hynes? Yes.
It gives other players more opportunities such as current players Lumelume, Eisenhuth, Lewis and Moeroa. Plus there are some good recruits in Coates, Meaney, Josh King and Nikorima.
Will the Storm make the eight every year for ever and a day? No, but they are a fair chance of doing it while Bellamy is still there.
I don’t see the Storm dropping off so much to miss the 4 in 2022. Although, with the players suspended (Harry Grant suspended too) the round 1 streak could be in jeopardy.
No GOAT, no glory: Is the Storm’s purple reign coming to an end?
Good on him. I think it is funny when people complain about bowlers performing mankads as not being in the spirit of the game. However, the same people think it is ok for the non-striker to walk a considerable way down the pitch before/as the ball is being bowled.
You would have thought that after the first mankad that the batting team would have been awake to the possibility.

I am a big fan of Coleman as a coach. As a Rebels member I was hoping the Rebels were going to appoint him as coach.

Collingwood Magpies season preview
Sorry BrookvaleSouth. You make a good point.
I did include A-League and W-League as sports people may be attending but I did unintentionally overlook Melbourne City’s results.
Despite the lockdown, 2020 was a massive sporting year for Victoria
At least CEO Mark Anderson emailed members yesterday (after I submitted this article) to say “Salary cap pressure was certainly a key part of the decision.”
Collingwood: More spin than Shane Warne
Absolutely spot on Les. Amateur hour at Collingwood. No transparency, poor treatment of players who loved the club.
With the spin they are putting out they must think members and supporters are stupid. We can see right through it.
The tyranny of the Magpies
Wayne, I agree Caps are still a champion side. I just think in the clutch moments they will miss Nurse and Epoupa. Nurse often hit 10+ points in a quarter or hit clutch shots to help the Capitals over the line. Epoupa would make a steal or two and score a layup to change momentum. I am not sure KG23 can get the Caps through those clutch moments without that help and as good as Smart and Tuapaea that can’t completely fill gap left by Nurse and Epoupa.
I think the Capitals will still be in the thick of the finals action.
As I said in the article you write the Capitals off at your own peril.
WNBL season preview: University of Canberra Capitals
Mary, really enjoying your WBBL articles and this article. Can’t wait for the WNBL season to start.
Bec Cole has been brilliant since moving to Dandenong Rangers/Southside Flyers. Fingers crossed Bec gets to the Olympics one way or another.
The WNBL season is an opportunity for Rebecca Cole
Makes me think of another former NZ back the Rebels signed, Tamati Ellison.
If Proctor is anywhere near as good for us as Ellison was, he will be great.
